Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert West! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and West counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. A punch combination from Diaz misses. Diaz misses with a wild combination.
West scores with a three punch combo!
Diaz stalks West and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into West's face. West staggers backwards, shaken. Diaz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! West jumps guard and drags Diaz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but West is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. West wants to stand and escape but Diaz is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Diaz passes easily into side control. Nice work. Diaz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Diaz trying to control the position but West is working away.

Diaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. West is staying active underneath Diaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Nick Diaz wasn't doing enough on the ground. Diaz digs a good body shot into West's ribs. Diaz's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Diaz duly obliges. Diaz misses with a double jab.

That was a close round but I would say that Nick Diaz will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. West thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Diaz's head. Diaz blocking the ground and pound attempt from West. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
