Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Howard King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Howard King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joey West!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

West rushes King and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

West breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

King scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
King trying to control the action but West is working from the bottom.
King tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

King is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. West knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
West is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
King is looking to take a break and control but West is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

West bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
West fails in his attempt to clinch.

King fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with West, pushing him back against the cage.

King pulls West into guard.

King is looking for a triangle but West pushes his legs off easily.

West thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

West is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

West drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and West jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

West thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
West is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
West trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

King has his foot on West's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. West works his way back into a safe position though.
West must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
King is breathing heavily.

King would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

King drops back looking for a leg! West is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and West manages to kick King off! King jumps back into West's guard.

West has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes King off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

West tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but King paws at him with a jab and circles away.

West clinches with his opponent.

West breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

West breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

King decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
West is trying to stand back up but King is controlling him
West is refusing to be controlled, as King sits in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Howard King will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

West breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
West wants to clinch up but King keeps it at a distance.

West pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
King throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and King counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
King wants to lay and pray for a moment but West keeps working.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

West pushes King off but King dives into side control.

King decides to stand up, so the ref orders West to his feet.
Joey West seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
West fails in his attempt to clinch.
West closes the distance but King moves to the side

and King decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in West's guard.
King might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

West manages to escape and get back to his feet.

West moves into range and clinches up with King.

West breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

King shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

King is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and West defends it well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
West is looking to escape.

King is trying to control the action in half guard but West is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

King stops West from getting back to his feet.
Joey West has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
King trying to control the pace.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
West wants to get back to his feet.
King keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Howard King wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
West closes the distance but King moves to the side

and King counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for West!

King with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

West's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
King tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
West is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
West is squirming around, avoiding King's attempts to control the action.
King is looking to work his way around to West's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

West is trying to stand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

King is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, West has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Howard King is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
King is looking to stand but King has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Howard King showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for King, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
