Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pol Cuaresma ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Edwards! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cuaresma looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Cuaresma is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Edwards's half guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Edwards gets full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Edwards is on top in guard.
Edwards slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. A lull in the action here as Edwards stalls from top position. Let's hope that Edwards has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Cuaresma is not content to let Edwards control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edwards scores with punches from side control. Edwards decides to stand back up. Cuaresma shoots in for a takedown but Edwards shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Edwards connects with a high kick. Cuaresma is trying hard to land a takedown here. Edwards sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pol Cuaresma . That's going to take a lot out of him. Cuaresma shoots for a takedown but Edwards saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Edwards misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Cuaresma shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cuaresma showed some decent athleticism there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Edwards is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Edwards is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edwards is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Cuaresma is tapping! Great win for Edwards!
