PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Austin Worner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Bowman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gary Bowman was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Worner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Bowman!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bowman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Worner did well to prevent Bowman getting side control.

Bowman decides to stand and escape the position.
Bowman circles away from the clinch attempt

and Bowman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bowman.
Bowman throwing strikes from guard but Worner blocks nicely.

Worner looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bowman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Worner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Worner is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Bowman controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bowman wants to get up but he can't break Worner's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bowman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Austin Worner wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Worner is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Worner tries to roll over but Bowman keeps him under control.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gary Bowman hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bowman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Worner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
You can see the frustration on Worner's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bowman throws a strike but Worner avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Worner looking for a guillotine here but Bowman defends easily.
Worner controls Bowman momentarily but Bowman frees himself.
Bowman wants to stand but Worner has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Bowman won't allow Worner to get back to his feet.
Bowman postures up.
Worner is looking to stand up but Bowman isn't so interested in that idea.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gary Bowman hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bowman looking to score a takedown here. Worner is defending well but Bowman drives through and ends up in Worner's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Worner looking for a guillotine here but Bowman defends easily.

Bowman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bowman is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Worner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gary Bowman was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Worner wants to take the fight to the mat but Bowman manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Bowman misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Worner.

Bowman turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Bowman fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Worner tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bowman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bowman tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Bowman tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Bowman decides to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Bowman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Bowman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Worner throws a head kick but Bowman moves out of range.
Worner swings away with a body shot that misses

and Bowman counters by clinching up.
Bowman with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Worner tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Bowman jumps guard and drags Worner to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Bowman has control of Worner's left arm, preventing Worner from doing any damage.
Bowman keeping moving, preventing Worner from controlling successfully.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Worner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Worner prevents Bowman from getting back to his feet.
Bowman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Worner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Bowman tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Worner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Bowman is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Worner's half guard.
Worner is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Bowman jumps into side control!

Worner seems a little lost for a moment, as Bowman dominates the positioning.
Worner is trying to control Bowman's posture but Bowman avoids it.
Bowman controls the position from side control.
Worner is trying to buck Bowman off.
You can see the frustration on Worner's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gary Bowman has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Bowman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Bowman decides to stand up, so the ref orders Worner to his feet.

Bowman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Worner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Worner is looking to regain half guard here but Bowman keeps moving and retains side control.
Worner wants to control but Bowman postures up.

Bowman throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Bowman lands a nice forearm strike.
Bowman tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Worner tries to buck Bowman off but Bowman is having none of it.
Bowman slows the pace down.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gary Bowman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bowman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
