PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Fenili (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Mera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mera comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Automatic - Monster kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gabriel Fenili!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Danny Mera!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Valeri Chadov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fenili shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mera counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nice straight punches there by Mera. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Mera.
Fenili tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Fenili misses with a combination
and Mera counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mera is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Fenili fails to land with a series of punches.
Fenili shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Fenili.

Mera drives through and clinches with Fenili against the ropes.
Mera lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the ropes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mera scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Stalling in the clinch from Mera.
Mera tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A frustrated look appears on Fenili's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mera fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Mera has a couple of punches blocked by Fenili.
Fenili is trying to drag Mera to the mat but Mera just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gabriel Fenili. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mera lands with a left to the head.
A short uppercut from Mera.
A head punch on the inside from Mera fails to land.
Fenili tries to score a body lock takedown but Mera shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Fenili fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Mera lands a right hand.
Mera misses with a hook to the ribs.

Fenili manages to break the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fenili.
Fenili throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mera's waist but Mera gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fenili off to one side.
Some bone on bone action there as Fenili checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A bone on bone clash there as Mera blocks the leg kick.
Mera defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Fenili.
Mera feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Fenilis jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Fenili shoots in and bounces Mera off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Mera trying to keep a closed guard but Fenili is proving a slippery customer.
Mera wants to stand and escape but Fenili is having none of it.

Mera is trying to keep Fenili in close.
Mera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Mera wants to stand but Fenili is controlling the position.
Fenili wants to control from the top but Mera keeps moving.
Mera tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Fenili pushes down on Mera's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Fenili is working for a submission of some sort.

Fenili is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mera has managed to free his arm - good work.

Fenili is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mera defends it well.
Fenili trying to mount his opponent but Mera defends it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Danny Mera will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Fenili tries for a takedown but Mera circles away easily
and Fenili takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mera stuffs the takedown attempt from Fenili. Fenili gets slowly back to his feet.
Fenili throws a right hand that Mera ducks under and follows up with a left that Mera also avoids with ease.
Mera tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fenili was well out of range. Poor timing from Mera.
A jab lands there for Mera.
Gabriel Fenili is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fenili shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mera sprawls well. Mera wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fenili gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gabriel Fenili. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fenili misses with the combination.

Mera cracks a nice hook into Fenili's ribs.
Fenili shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mera as he avoids it easily.
A telegraphed right hand from Mera misses the target.

and Fenili counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mera won't be happy with that.
Mera stops Fenili from passing to mount.

Fenili working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Mera really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fenili. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fenili is trying to get an arm triangle but Mera is defending well.
Mera tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fenili wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fenili throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mera is trying to work for a sweep but Fenili has mounted him!
Fenili prevents Mera from getting the reversal.
Mera sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Mera is trying to stand.

Fenili seems to be looking for submissions.
Fenili works his foot free and advances to mount.
Gabriel Fenili overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fenili looking to control but Mera is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fenili is really struggling to control Mera but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Fenili jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mera is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mera and Fenili has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Fenili working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Mera is looking to reverse the position.
The strikes coming from Fenili are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Fenili trying to control the action but Mera is working from the bottom.

Fenili is trying to get an arm triangle but Mera is defending well.

Mera is trying to get back to half guard.
Fenili wants to control but Mera is keeping him busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mera is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Fenili comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Mera stuffs the takedown.
Fenili shoots in looking for a takedown. Mera tries to sprawl out of it but Fenili keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Mera manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mera controls Fenili momentarily but Fenili frees himself.
Mera seems keen to control Fenili's posture.
Fenili wants to pass the guard but Mera is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fenili is pushing down on Mera's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mera is fighting to maintain full guard but Fenili has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mera is staying active underneath Fenili, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mera trying to control but Fenili postures up.

Fenili seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Mera is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Gabriel Fenili!
