Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Cooney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hercules Belvedere (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Belvedere is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Lupe Fiasco - Superstar. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hercules Belvedere!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, David Schapiro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooney swats away the attempt to clinch by Belvedere.
Cooney uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Belvedere.
Cooney fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Belvedere scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Belvedere misses the jab.
A big right from Belvedere misses.
Belvedere shoots in but Cooney avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Belvedere jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Belvedere scores with a crisp jab that stopped Cooney in his tracks.

Belvedere moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Cooney has worked his arm free - good work by Cooney!

Belvedere passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Cooney!
Belvedere looking to control but Cooney is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Belvedere might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cooney kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cooney is wriggling around trying to escape.
Belvedere wants to control the pace but Cooney is squirming around nicely.

Hercules Belvedere dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hercules Belvedere seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cooney loads up on a big right hand but Belvedere slips the punch.

Belvedere throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

No luck for Belvedere with that takedown attempt.
Belvedere throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cooney's waist but Cooney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Belvedere off to one side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cooney is defended easily by Belvedere.
Belvedere swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Cooney counters with a slapping leg kick.
Belvedere leaves Cooney with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cooney lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Belvedere tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cooney was well out of range. Poor timing from Belvedere.

Belvedere shoots in looking for a takedown but Cooney manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Belvedere's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Belvedere throws out a loose jab but Cooney uses good head movement to avoid it.

Cooney shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cooney was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Belvedere has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Cooney!
Cooney wants to control but Belvedere is having none of it.

Belvedere tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Belvedere swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cooney is now in Belvedere's guard. A big mistake from Belvedere there, giving up the dominant position!
Belvedere not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Belvedere has his foot on Cooney's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cooney works his way back into a safe position though.

Belvedere has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cooney can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Belvedere takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cooney tries to free his leg and advance position but Belvedere is retaining full guard.
Cooney loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Belvedere is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
