PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ahoy Matey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ahoy Matey!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Anderson dives in and grabs Matey's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matey pushes down on Anderson's head and hops out.

Anderson forces Matey back against the cage and clinches.
Anderson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Anderson doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Anderson is looking to take this one to the mat.
Anderson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Matey is defending well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Anderson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Anderson wants the takedown. Matey is fighting it off but Anderson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Matey's guard against the cage.
Anderson wants to control from the top but Matey keeps moving.

Anderson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Anderson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Matey closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Anderson did well to prevent Matey getting side control.
Anderson is looking for a sweep. Matey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matey keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Matey is looking to advance position but Anderson won't allow it.
Anderson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matey is working away from the top position though.
Anderson manages to get to full guard.

Matey drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Anderson dives on top into guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Anderson wants to take a breather but Matey is having none of it.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Anderson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Matey!
Matey wants to control but Anderson is having none of it.
Matey is trying desperately to improve position.
Matey tries to hold on but Anderson pushes him away.
Anderson connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Matey can do anything to dispel that myth.
Matey is squirming around, avoiding Anderson's attempts to control the action.
Anderson controlling his opponent.
Anderson tries to control but Matey wriggling away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Anderson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's time! Anderson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Matey avoids a punch combination nicely.

Matey is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Anderson keeping moving, preventing Matey from controlling successfully.
Anderson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Anderson has a closed guard, preventing Matey from standing up.
Matey must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Anderson wants to sweep here but Matey controlling him for the moment.

Ahoy Matey has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Matey lands a head kick. Anderson smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like John Anderson has been cut.
Matey stuffs the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Anderson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Matey lands a high kick!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Matey throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
A head kick misses from Matey.

Matey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Matey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Matey really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Anderson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Anderson is looking to get to half guard.
Anderson wants to control but Matey is having none of it.
Matey looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Matey is landing with some decent strikes but Anderson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Matey goes for an armbar but Anderson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Anderson.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Anderson wants to control from the top but Matey keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Anderson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Matey is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Matey wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ahoy Matey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on John Anderson's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Anderson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matey swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

We're going to have a standup here because John Anderson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Matey shoots in for a takedown but Anderson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Matey throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Anderson.
Matey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Anderson gets caught napping as Matey dives in and scores a takedown. Anderson manages to retain guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Anderson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Matey can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Anderson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Anderson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Matey's guard.

Matey is looking for a triangle but Anderson pushes his legs off easily.
Anderson is looking to stand up but Matey won't let him.
John Anderson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Matey looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Anderson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Matey is keeping the position for now.
Anderson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Matey has his foot on Anderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Anderson works his way back into a safe position though.
Anderson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
