Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dan Simler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie McCullough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCullough comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Slim Thug - Like A Boss kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dan Simler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Eddie McCullough! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCullough fails with a takedown attempt. McCullough leaves Simler with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Simler rushes McCullough and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Simler manages to break the clinch.
Simler ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McCullough moves away. McCullough keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Simler throws a shot from downtown. McCullough moves away and avoids it. Dan Simler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Simler rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and McCullough counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Simler thinking.
That's one minute gone in the round. Simler loads up on a big right hand but McCullough slips the punch. Simler swinging wildly here.
Simler scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Simler prevents McCullough from standing back up.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Simler is taking a breather. McCullough says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Dan Simler has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. The fighters circling - Simler throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Simler throws out a loose jab but McCullough uses good head movement to avoid it. Simler throws an overhand right that lands on McCullough's shoulder, as McCullough tries to avoid the shot. Simler swings for the body but McCullough moves out of range.
Simler looks to land a combination but McCullough avoids it well. Simler misses with an uppercut
and McCullough makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. McCullough shoots in looking for a takedown. Simler tries to sprawl out of it but McCullough keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Simler manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Simler misses with a right hand and McCullough decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Simler's guard. Simler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. McCullough looking to pass the guard. McCullough prevents Simler from getting back to his feet. Simler on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Simler tries to get out of the position. McCullough stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Simler swivels though and keeps the full guard. McCullough wants to control from the top but Simler keeps moving. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Simler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McCullough trying to control the position from guard on top but Simler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Eddie McCullough wasn't active enough on the ground. Simler keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Dan Simler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie McCullough. Simler thows a left - swing and a miss! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. McCullough shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Simler but Simler pushes him off and we're back to square one. A slow jab from Simler misses its intended target. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Dan Simler will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Simler throws a right and a left that McCullough avoids nicely. McCullough moves out of range as Simler strikes. McCullough slips a jab from Simler. McCullough ducks under a wild hook from Simler. McCullough avoids a punch combination nicely.

Simler breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Simler fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McCullough manages to avoid it. Simler swinging wildly here.
Simler throws the left hand but McCullough avoids the punch easily. Simler clinches up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McCullough is trying to drag Simler to the mat but Simler just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. McCullough can't get the takedown.
Dan Simler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie McCullough. McCullough tries to pull guard but Simler forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Simler lands with a light punch inside. Simler misses with a knee strike.
Simler scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Simler gets a warning from the ref for wasting time. McCullough changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Simler fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Simler misses with a hook. McCullough ducked under it nicely. Simler swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Simler misses with a looping left.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McCullough fails with the takedown. Simler has closed the distance and engaged McCullough in a clinch.
Simler's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A telegraphed takedown attempt from McCullough is defended easily by Simler. McCullough checks the leg kick. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dan Simler dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Simler tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McCullough was well out of range. Poor timing from Simler. Simler closes the distance and clinches. Simler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Nice uppercut there from Simler. Simler looks to land a combination but McCullough avoids it well. Simler swings and misses with a hook to the body.
McCullough fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Simler lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McCullough takes a shot right to the bread basket. McCullough takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Simler waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract McCullough. McCullough slips a jab and a cross from Simler.
McCullough changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Simler tries to avoid it but McCullough manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Simler to the ground. Simler escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Dan Simler is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Simler lands a jab to McCullough's midsection. Simler will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McCullough gets caught napping as Simler dives in and scores a takedown. McCullough manages to retain guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Simler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Simler is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
We're going to have a standup here because Dan Simler wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. McCullough takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Eddie McCullough has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. McCullough takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

And that's the end of the fight! Dan Simler showed his dominance in that final round. Well Simler has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
