PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ari Birmiski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Harvey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Birmiski comes to the cage accompanied by I'm Back - T.I. Harvey is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by E-17 . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ari Birmiski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Harvey!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Birmiski connects with a body shot that sends Harvey's belly button to the back.
Birmiski takes one to the side of the head.
Birmiski shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Harvey but Harvey pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Birmiski takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Harvey fails in his attempt to clinch.
Birmiski ducks under a wild hook from Harvey.
Birmiski takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Harvey connects with a body shot.
Birmiski walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Birmiski slips a straight right by Harvey.
Harvey lands with an overhand left.
Harvey throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Harvey lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Ari Birmiski has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Birmiski throws a lazy head kick
and Harvey counters with a nice low kick that buckles Birmiski's knee momentarily.

Harvey misses with a shot to the body
and Birmiski counters with a slapping leg kick.
Harvey shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Harvey, right into the meat.
Harvey throws a right and a left that both miss.
Birmiski ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Harvey moves away.
Harvey lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Harvey.

Harvey gets tackled into the cage by Birmiski. Birmiski maintains the clinch.
Birmiski blocking some punches.
Harvey stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Harvey misses with a hook to the ribs.
Birmiski tries to work over Harvey's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Birmiski using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Harvey has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Harvey just misses with a elbow thrown towards Birmiski's brow.
Harvey is struggling to control the position.
Harvey lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Birmiski backwards.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Harvey.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Birmiski pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Harvey connects with a leg kick. Birmiski looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Harvey darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Harvey throws a series of punches but Birmiski avoids them all with ease.
Birmiski fails in his attempt to clinch.
Harvey throws a right and a left that Birmiski avoids nicely.
Harvey works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Harvey misses with a wild combination.
Birmiski goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Birmiski moves out of range of the strikes.
Harvey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Birmiski on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Birmiski checks a low kick from Harvey.
Birmiski thows a left - swing and a miss!
Harvey misses with a leg kick
enabling Birmiski to counter with a crisp jab.
Harvey turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Harvey attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Birmiski throws an overhand right that lands on Harvey's shoulder, as Harvey tries to avoid the shot.
Birmiski goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Harvey dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Harvey tries to land a leg kick but Birmiski saw it coming and moves away.
Harvey misses with a looping right.
Harvey lands a two punch combo.
Harvey throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Harvey closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Harvey throws a series of punches but Birmiski moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Birmiski. Harvey does a little dance to reset his feet.
Harvey lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Harvey throws out a loose jab but Birmiski uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Birmiski looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Harvey is fending him off so far but Birmiski persists. Nope, Harvey circles away and we're back to standing.

Harvey tries to sprawl but Birmiski drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Harvey manages to get to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Harvey dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ari Birmiski's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Harvey tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Birmiski lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Harvey has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Harvey and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

A punch lands to the side of Birmiski 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Brian Harvey seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Birmiski fails in his attempt to clinch.
Harvey throws a right hand that Birmiski ducks under and follows up with a left that Birmiski also avoids with ease.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Birmiski.
Harvey throws an off balance right hand
and Birmiski counters with a two punch combo.
Birmiski tries to close the distance and clinch but Harvey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A slapping leg kick lands for Harvey.
Brian Harvey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Harvey misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Harvey jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Birmiski misses with an uppercut. Harvey saw that one coming.
Harvey dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Birmiski. That did some damage!

The fight stays on the outside here - Birmiski looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Harvey swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Harvey throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Birmiski counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Harvey lunges at Birmiski with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Birmiski's hand.

Harvey misses with an attempted mid kick.
Birmiski is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Harvey.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters circle momentarily. Birmiski darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A big right from Harvey misses.
Birmiski keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Harvey.
Birmiski looks to land a left hand but Harvey moved out of range nicely.
Harvey lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Harvey explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Harvey throws a hook but Birmiski blocks it.

Birmiski moves forwards but Harvey connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Birmiski takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Harvey thows a body shot but no joy.
Brian Harvey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A nice leg kick lands there from Harvey.
Birmiski throws the kick towards the body but Harvey avoids it.
Harvey lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Birmiski circles away quickly and effectively.

Birmiski slips a jab and a cross from Harvey.
Birmiski ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Birmiski shoots in and bounces Harvey off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Harvey had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Birmiski defends it easily.

Harvey has his foot on Birmiski's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Birmiski works his way back into a safe position though.

Birmiski has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Birmiski wants to pass the guard but Harvey is keeping the position.

Harvey shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Birmiski eats them both and turns towards Harvey to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Birmiski just misses with a punch to the body.
Harvey clobbers Birmiski with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Harvey dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Birmiski takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Birmiski is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Harvey throws the left hand but Birmiski avoids the punch easily.
The fighters circling - Harvey throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Harvey darts in and clinches Birmiski up against the cage.
Birmiski misses with a punch on the inside.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Birmiski prevents a body shot from Harvey.

Birmiski has had enough of the clinch but Harvey keeps him there for the moment.

Harvey pushes off an throws an elbow but Birmiski leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Harvey throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Harvey takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Birmiski lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Harvey at a distance.
Birmiski needs to keep his hands up - Harvey had a free shot at his head there.

Harvey avoids a punch combination nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Birmiski looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Birmiski doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

and Birmiski counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Harvey thinking.
Harvey avoids the body shot from Birmiski.
Birmiski uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Harvey.
Birmiski takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Harvey fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Birmiski.
Harvey catches Birmiski with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Harvey walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Birmiski checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Brian Harvey is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ari Birmiski has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Birmiski is looking to wear down Harvey with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

I've got Harvey winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
