PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xtreme MMA (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Saw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saw fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Saw looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
MMA misses with a body kick.
MMA thows a body kick. Saw tries to catch it but that hurt him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

MMA decides to stand back up. MMA steps back and let's Saw get back to his feet.

MMA tries to bum rush Saw with a series of wild strikes but Saw uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
MMA closes the distance and clinches up with Saw, looking for a takedown. MMA pushes Saw against the cage but Saw circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
MMA misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
MMA swats away the attempt to clinch by Saw.
MMA shoots in but no luck this time.
MMA throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

MMA has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Saw is trying to keep an underhook but MMA manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, MMA seems content to control.

MMA will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

MMA's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Saw has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. MMA is working away from the top position though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Saw wants to stand back up but MMA manages to pass into side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Saw gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Saw is wriggling around trying to escape.
MMA lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Saw has given up his back. Will we see MMA going for some submissions?

MMA is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Saw knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Saw for a finish.

MMA throws a hook to the side of Saw's head but Saw sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Saw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Saw counters with a left and a right that stings MMA.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xtreme MMA. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and MMA counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
MMA stands and throws Saw's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Saw's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Saw counters with a one-two to the body.
Saw tries to close the distance and clinch but MMA swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Saw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Saw drops back, looking for a kneebar! MMA looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. MMA looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from MMA!
MMA remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Saw is looking to reverse the position.
Saw takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
MMA happy to just control the position for now.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

MMA is working to tighten is grip on Saw's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Saw has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but MMA is really squeezing tight and eventually Saw passes out! MMA breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
