PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rasta Fary (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Silverman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fary's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, El toro guapo. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Rasta Fary!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fred Silverman!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silverman looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Silverman lands with a shot to the body.
Silverman shoots in for a takedown but Fary shows good takedown defense.
Fary lands a jab-cross combination.
Fary lands with a nice combination. Silverman backs away looking to recover.
Silverman jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Silverman shoots and misses
and Fary counters with a two punch combo.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fary fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Silverman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Fary has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Silverman's lack of action.

Silverman is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fary doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silverman.
Silverman throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Fary to regain full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silverman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Fary has Silverman pulled in close to control his posture.
Silverman trying to control the position from guard on top but Fary is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fary wants to sweep but no luck.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Silverman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Fary is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Fred Silverman was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Silverman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fary avoids it really well and circles away.
Rasta Fary has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fred Silverman.
Fary connects with a looping right hand.
Rasta Fary seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fary lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Silverman keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Silverman takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Silverman looks to land a left hand but Fary moved out of range nicely.

Silverman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fary is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Silverman in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Silverman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silverman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Fary sneaks back into half guard.
Fary is trying to get back to full guard.
Silverman with the ground and pound but Fary uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Silverman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Silverman trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Fary keeping moving, preventing Silverman from controlling successfully.
Silverman advances to half guard.
Silverman is trying to control. Fary wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fary is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Silverman throws a strike but Fary avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Silverman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rasta Fary will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Silverman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fary swivels and escapes.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Fary, as that shot connected.
Fary will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fary. Silverman does a little dance to reset his feet.

Fary decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fary throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Fary thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Silverman wants to improve his position but Fary is controlling well.
Fary throws a strike but Silverman avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Fary stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silverman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fary cracks Silverman with a solid left hand.
Fary chips away with some ground and pound.
Fary being controlled here momentarily.
Fary wants to control from the top but Silverman keeps moving.
Fary loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Fary stands and throws Silverman's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Silverman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fary off and has taken his back!
Fary looking very determined here, making life difficult for Silverman.
Silverman is controlling the position but Fary somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Fary is trying to get back to full guard.

Silverman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Fary is trying to maintain the position but Silverman is very close to passing his half guard.
Fary is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Fred Silverman has got the better of the ground game so far.

Silverman seems to be working for a kimura but Fary defends the submission attempt.
Fary wants to improve his position but Silverman is controlling well.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Silverman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Fary is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Silverman, into his guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Silverman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Fary is trying to defend but Silverman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fary wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silverman wants to work for an arm triangle but Fary is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Fary is not content to let Silverman control the position.
Silverman misses with a head shot. Fary uses the momentum to regain guard.

Well Fary has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
