PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight kickboxing rules bout between John Giles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elyas Pical (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pical is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Netral- Garuda Di Dadaku. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, John Giles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Elyas Pical!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giles chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Pical can pounce on him.
Giles fails to land with a series of punches.
Giles tries to clinch up.
Giles misses with a head kick.
Giles throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Giles just misses with a punch to the body.

Giles instigates a clinch.

Giles breaks from the clinch.
Giles misses with a wild body shot.
Pical lands a front kick.
Pical tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Giles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Giles slips a jab and a cross from Pical.
Elyas Pical seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pical throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Giles sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Pical tries to clinch but Giles is having none of it.

and Pical counters with a big head kick but Giles shrugs it off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Giles throws an off balance right hand
and Pical counters with a head kick. That will keep Giles thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Pical throws a sloppy head kick
and Giles cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Giles pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Giles fails with an attempt to clinch.
Giles misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Giles getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Pical takes a swing at Giles's ribcage but misses.
Giles throws a head kick that misses.
Sloppy strikes from Pical. Those never looked like landing.
Pical misses with a few strikes there.
Giles looks to score with a jab to the body but Pical is just out of range.

Giles closes the distance and clinches.
A short left from Giles.
Giles is trying to break the clinch but Pical is controlling him.
Giles tries to break the clinch but Pical is controlling the position.
Giles is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes.

Giles breaks from the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Giles gets tackled into the ropes by Pical. Pical maintains the clinch.
Giles wants to break the clinch but can't.

Giles's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pical fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pical tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Giles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pical moves in looking to clinch but Giles pushes him off.

Giles darts in and clinches Pical up against the ropes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Giles escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pical throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Giles wants to clinch.
Elyas Pical is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Giles lands a jab.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pical avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pical misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Giles dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Pical tries to keep at a distance but Giles has taken the fight into the clinch.
Pical just leaning against Giles, taking a breather.

Giles breaks the clinch.
Giles swings for the body but Pical moves out of range.
Pical throws a hook but Giles blocks it.
Pical swats away the attempt to clinch by Giles.
Decent striking displayed by Giles there.
Giles blocks a head kick by Pical.

Pical tries to keep at a distance but Giles has taken the fight into the clinch.
Giles looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Pical wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Giles is trying to force a seperation but Pical has the dominant position.

Giles breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Some bone on bone action there as Pical checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pical walks into a straight right hand from Giles.

Giles clinches up against the ropes.
Pical is trying to break the clinch but Giles has him pressed against the ropes.
Pical tries to circle away but Giles has him pinned against the ropes.

Giles breaks from the clinch.
Pical is looking to clinch.
Pical wants to clinch
and Giles counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Pical tries to clinch but Giles moves away
and Giles counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Nice shot lands for Giles.


Pical is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Giles clinches with his opponent.
Pical is still on wobbly legs! Can Giles finish him?

Giles breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pical tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Giles counters with a lead uppercut that lands right on the button! Pical goes down! Will Pical beat the count? 3,4,5,6,7,8... he's not going to make it! 9,10! He's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). John Giles!
John Giles decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
