PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Shane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nobunaga Oda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Michael Shane has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Shane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nobunaga Oda!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Oda.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Oda trying to control the action but Shane is working from the bottom.
Oda landing strikes.
Shane is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oda in side control lands a decent elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shane is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Oda has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Oda throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Oda chips away with some ground and pound.
Shane utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Oda working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shane's head.

Oda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shane has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Oda has managed to get both his arms back between Shane's legs - danger averted.

Shane had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Oda defends it easily.

Oda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shane swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Oda's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Oda is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Oda is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Shane is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Oda with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Oda is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Oda lands a nice short elbow.
Shane has hold of Oda's hands but Oda slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Oda drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oda jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shane tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Oda seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Oda lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Shane is not content to let Oda control the position.

Oda content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Oda drops an elbow to the side of Shane's head.
Shane wants to improve his position but Oda is controlling well.
Shane has hold of Oda's hands but Oda slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Shane is refusing to be controlled, as Oda sits in half guard.
Shane on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Oda is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Shane is trying to get back to full guard.
Oda takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Shane has hold of Oda's hands but Oda slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Oda seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Oda is pressing down on Shane's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shane is holding on for now.
Shane is refusing to be controlled, as Oda sits in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nobunaga Oda dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Shane throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Oda.

Oda drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Oda is putting a hurting on Shane here, landing some big shots from side control.

Shane is looking to improve his position.

Oda trying to control the action but Shane is working from the bottom.
Oda looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shane with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Shane gets back to full guard.
Oda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shane swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Oda working some strikes from top position.
Shane wants to sweep but no luck.
Oda not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Oda wants to control from the top but Shane keeps moving.
Oda is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Oda keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Shane's head.
Shane has momentary wrist control but Oda slips an elbow through the middle.
Shane is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shane blocks the strikes from Oda.
Oda has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Oda is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shane pulls his head out easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shane not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Shane is working for a kimura but Oda is defending it quite comfortably.
Oda is pressing down on Shane's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Shane avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Shane is sitting in close to Oda's body. Oda has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Shane is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Shane is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Oda.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Nobunaga Oda!
Our winner, Nobunaga Oda, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
