The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson is looking to clinch.
Thompson throws a head kick but Cournoyer moves out of range.
Cournoyer throws the left hand but Thompson avoids the punch easily.
Cournoyer shoots in looking for a takedown but Thompson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cournoyer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cournoyer circles away from the clinch attempt.
Thompson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cournoyer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cournoyer closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Thompson quickly recovers to half guard.
Thompson is looking to escape.
Cournoyer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thompson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cournoyer is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Thompson has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thompson wants to improve his position but Cournoyer is controlling well.
Cournoyer is thwarting Thompson's attempts to control the position.

Cournoyer seems to be working for a kimura but Thompson defends the submission attempt.
Cournoyer frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cournoyer seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Thompson is holding on tight.
Thompson is squirming around, avoiding Cournoyer's attempts to control the action.
Cournoyer works his way to his opponent's back.
