PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rockert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cristiano Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rockert comes into the arena with Cant be touched blaring out of the sound system. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Rockert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cristiano Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rockert keeps the fight on the outside.
Garcia doesn't manage to clinch there - Rockert circles away.
Garcia tries to close the distance and clinch but Rockert swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Garcia shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rockert as he jumps to the side.
Garcia throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rockert's waist but Rockert gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Garcia off to one side.

Rockert closes the distance and clinches.
Rockert tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Still in the clinch, Rockert scores with a nice short uppercut.
Garcia tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Garcia is looking to control Rockert's arms but Rockert gets an underhook and turns him. Now Garcia has his back to the cage.
Rockert doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Rockert breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Rockert clinches up against the cage.
Garcia jumps guard but Rockert turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Steve Rockert has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cristiano Garcia.
Garcia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rockert is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Rockert manages to break the clinch.

Rockert forces Garcia back against the cage and clinches.

Rockert ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rockert no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Garcia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rockert swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Garcia looking to sit in guard and control but Rockert gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rockert is working Garcia over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Rockert drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rockert jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rockert postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Garcia is working an open guard so Rockert takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Horrible takedown by Garcia or perhaps it was just good defense by Rockert which made him look bad.

Rockert manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Garcia on his heels. He'll look to pass Garcia's guard now, I'm sure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rockert throwing strikes but missing.

Rockert decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Garcia, up you get!

Rockert has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rockert lands a shoulder strike.

Rockert breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Garcia tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rockert manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Garcia rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rockert moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rockert defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Garcia.

Rockert passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Rockert tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rockert has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Garcia is looking to reverse the position.
Rockert wants to lay and pray for a moment but Garcia keeps working.
Garcia struggling a bit here.
Rockert lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Garcia down.

You can see the frustration on Garcia's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Garcia sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Garcia is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rockert not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Rockert is working for a submission of some sort.
Rockert throws a strike but Garcia avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Rockert dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Garcia fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Garcia tries to close the distance and clinch but Rockert swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Garcia dives in and grabs Rockert's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rockert pushes down on Garcia's head and hops out.
Garcia misses with a takedown attempt - Rockert sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Garcia lunges at Rockert with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Rockert's hand.

Rockert manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Garcia on his heels. He'll look to pass Garcia's guard now, I'm sure.

Rockert postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Rockert got a little sloppy there for a moment and Garcia has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rockert has managed to get both his arms back between Garcia's legs - danger averted.

Rockert is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Garcia is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Garcia has escaped and now he's on top!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Garcia accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Rockert has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Garcia off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Rockert moves into the clinch.

Garcia fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Garcia is breathing heavily.
Garcia misses with a takedown attempt - Rockert sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Steve Rockert seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rockert has closed the distance and engaged Garcia in a clinch.

Rockert has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Garcia clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Can Garcia hold on?! Rockert is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Garcia trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Steve Rockert overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rockert gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Rockert lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Rockert.

and Rockert counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rockert.

Rockert throws a nice looking combination but Garcia bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Garcia takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rockert rushes Garcia and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rockert manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Garcia looking to sit in guard and control but Rockert gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rockert has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rockert with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Rockert drops back looking for a leg! Garcia is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Garcia manages to kick Rockert off! Rockert jumps back into Garcia's guard.
Rockert is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Garcia has his foot on Rockert's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rockert works his way back into a safe position though.
Garcia bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rockert's guard.
Garcia is looking to stand up but Rockert won't let him.
Rockert wants to sweep but no luck.

Rockert uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Garcia is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rockert drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Rockert shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Garcia manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Garcia is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Garcia is stalling here. Rockert is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Garcia seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Rockert has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Rockert showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rockert, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
