Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Gregson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robert Eberson! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gregson shoots and misses enabling Eberson to counter with a crisp jab. A big right from Eberson misses. Gregson misses with a takedown attempt and Eberson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Eberson content to control rather than advance. Gregson wants to get back to full guard. Gregson gets back to full guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Eberson is in close to Gregson's body, working some short punches and elbows. Gregson is looking for a triangle but Eberson pushes his legs off easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hammerfist, elbow! yells Eberson's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Eberson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gregson wants to sweep here but Eberson controlling him for the moment. Eberson cracks Gregson with a solid left hand.
Gregson is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Eberson with a nice head shot there. Oh Gregson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Eberson scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Eberson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Gregson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Eberson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Eberson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Eberson stands up over Gregson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Gregson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Eberson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Eberson chips away with some ground and pound. Eberson working some strikes from top position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Eberson scoring with punches to the head and body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Eberson gets to his feet and stands over Gregson, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Gregson felt that one! Eberson unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Gregson from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Eberson! After winning the bout, Robert Eberson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
