Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh Woodhouse! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Maurice Sullivan! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Woodhouse shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sullivan pinned against the cage. Sullivan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Sullivan scores with a takedown into Woodhouse's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sullivan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Woodhouse controls Sullivan momentarily but Sullivan frees himself. Sullivan looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Maurice Sullivan has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Woodhouse gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Sullivan counters with a shoot takedown. Woodhouse fights it but they end up in guard. Sullivan sitting in guard here, content to control. Sullivan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Sullivan scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Sullivan wants to control from the top but Woodhouse keeps moving. Sullivan is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Sullivan has gone for a leg lock! Woodhouse slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sullivan's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sullivan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Woodhouse doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Woodhouse manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Woodhouse trying to control the position from guard on top but Sullivan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sullivan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Woodhouse! Sullivan lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Woodhouse gets back to half guard. Sullivan trying to control the pace. Sullivan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Sullivan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Woodhouse knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Woodhouse is looking to improve his position.
Sullivan performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Woodhouse punching from the bottom.
Woodhouse won't allow Sullivan to pass to mount. Sullivan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Sullivan works his foot free and advances to mount. Sullivan throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Woodhouse has his hands clasped together but Sullivan breaks the hold and Woodhouse is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Sullivan!
