1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Filip Kowalski! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shannon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kowalski napping and manages to drive through into side control! Shannon has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Kowalski shoots in and drives through. Shannon sprawls well. Shannon forces Kowalski back against the cage and clinches. Kowalski lands a damaging elbow. Kowalski unloads a knee to the mid-section. Shannon lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Kowalski tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kowalski softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shannon wants the takedown. Kowalski is fighting it off but Shannon persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kowalski's guard against the cage. Shannon stands up from guard. Let's bang! Shannon closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kowalski's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. It looks like Filip Kowalski has been cut. Shannon closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kowalski quickly recovers to half guard. Shannon decides to stand up. Shannon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shannon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! This has been an exciting period of action! Shannon stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Shannon closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shannon lands in his opponent's guard. Shannon gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
