PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Yu Wi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Woo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Woo comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Papercut kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Jin Woo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Yu Wi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jin Woo!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Woo somewhat.

Wi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Woo is trying to defend but Wi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Wi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Woo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Wi is thwarting Woo's attempts to control the position.

Wi is trying to work for a kimura but Woo is defending well.

Wi stands up and beckons Woo to join him on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A combination from Woo does no damage.
Woo throws a jab but it's blocked by Wi.
Wi lands with a shot to the body.
Woo misses with a few strikes there.

Wi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Woo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Woo is working to avoid the ground and pound but Wi connects with a decent elbow.

Wi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Woo is trying to control Wi's posture but Wi avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Woo keeps working.
Wi is chipping away with strikes.
Wi looks up at the clock and then as Woo takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wi smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Woo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Woo is looking to control Wi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Woo avoid being mounted?
Woo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Wi wants to pass to mount but Woo is defending the position.
Wi with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Woo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Wi.
Woo is looking to escape.
Wi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Woo blocking the ground and pound attempt from Wi.
Wi keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Wi is working for a submission of some sort.
Wi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Yu Wi dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Woo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wi.
Wi chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Wi blocks a head kick by Woo.
Jin Woo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Woo with that takedown attempt.
Wi's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Wi duly obliges.
Wi connects with a single shot there.

Wi shoots in and gets a takedown into Woo's guard.
Wi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Wi tries to free his leg and advance position but Woo is retaining full guard.
Wi wants to control from the top but Woo keeps moving.
Woo wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Yu Wi.

Woo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Wi breaks the clinch.
Wi fails to land with a series of punches.
Wi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Woo circles away.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Woo.
Woo falls off balance throwing a combination

and Wi moves into the clinch.

Wi pulls guard.
Wi working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Woo.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Wi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woo works over Wi with some ground and pound from guard.
Woo wants to stand but Wi is controlling his posture from full guard.

Woo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Woo wants to control from the top but Wi keeps moving.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wi kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Jin Woo has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Woo closes the distance and pushes Wi back into the cage.

Wi gets control of Woo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wi will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Yu Wi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wi keeping moving, preventing Woo from controlling successfully.

Woo is sitting in close to Wi's body. Wi has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Woo is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Woo is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Wi.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Yu Wi!
