Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Harry Stamper! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stamper closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Stamper is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Smith pushes Stamper off and gets back to his feet. Nice sprawl there from Smith as Stamper shoots in. David Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Stamper is striking from the bottom but Smith uses the opportunity to pass into half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smith misses with a head shot. Stamper uses the momentum to regain guard. Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Stamper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Stamper utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Stamper has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Stamper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Stamper wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stamper is trying to keep Smith in close.
Stamper preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Smith with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith stands up from guard. Let's bang! Stamper drives through with a takedown into Smith's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Smith had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stamper defends it easily. Stamper is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Smith has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Stamper is looking to defend but Smith has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Stamper! Smith pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Stamper taps out and this one is all over!
