PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brenden Abbott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Baroa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jose Baroa was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brenden Abbott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Baroa!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Some bone on bone action there as Baroa checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Baroa misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Baroa closes the distance and clinches.
Baroa is pushing Abbott up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Abbott tries a body shot but Baroa blocks it.

Abbott swings wildly with an uppercut but Baroa uses good head movement to avoid it.
Abbott stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Abbott is looking to control Baroa's arms but Baroa gets an underhook and turns him. Now Abbott has his back to the cage.
Abbott can't break the clinch.
Abbott has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Baroa is trying to force a seperation but Abbott has the dominant position.
Abbott wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Abbott misses with a hook from the clinch.
Baroa looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Baroa successfully pulls guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Abbott wants to control from the top but Baroa keeps moving.
Baroa bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Abbott's guard.
Abbott looking for a sweep. Not yet Abbott, not yet.
Abbott is looking to sweep but instead, Baroa has passed into half guard.
Abbott throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Baroa is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jose Baroa has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Baroa throws a right and a left that Abbott avoids nicely.
Abbott misses with a low kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baroa stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Abbott.
Baroa shoots for a double leg takedown but Abbott sprawls well. He's pushed Baroa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Abbott connects with an inside leg kick.
Abbott lands a nice leg kick that just misses Baroa's sensitive parts.
Abbott is looking to slow Baroa down with leg kicks.
Abbott fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Baroa has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Abbott swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Baroa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Baroa wants to clinch.

Baroa fails to land the takedown.
Brenden Abbott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Baroa.
Abbott walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Baroa checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Abbott buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Baroa shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Abbott pinned against the cage. Abbott gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Abbott connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Good leg kick by Abbott there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Baroa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brenden Abbott will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Baroa is defended easily by Abbott.
Baroa on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
A solid body kick from Abbott.

Abbott motions for Baroa to come forward. Abbott throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Baroa looks to score with a jab to the body but Abbott is just out of range.
A slapping leg kick lands for Abbott.
Abbott swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Abbott with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Abbott lands with a thumping leg kick.
Baroa looks for a takedown but Abbott sprawls well.
Abbott lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Abbott.
Jose Baroa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Abbott fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Baroa.
Baroa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Abbott sprawls well. Abbott wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Baroa gets slowly back to his feet.
Brenden Abbott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Baroa.
Abbott lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Baroa takes the fight into the clinch.

Abbott fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Baroa's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Baroa wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Abbott has him pressed against the cage.

Baroa successfully pulls guard.
Abbott wants to stand and escape but instead Baroa has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Abbott can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Baroa controls the pace.
Abbott working a defensive guard but Baroa manages to pass into side control anyway.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Abbott is trying to control Baroa's posture but Baroa avoids it.

Baroa is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Abbott looks calm but he's in trouble here. Baroa gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Abbott is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Baroa lets go of the hold and Abbott can pop his arm back in it's socket.
