Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Amaral! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luck Miller! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Amaral stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Amaral wants it to stay on the feet. Miller shoots in looking for a takedown. Amaral tries to sprawl out of it but Miller keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Amaral manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Amaral misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Miller shoots in for a takedown but Amaral shows good takedown defense. Joao Amaral has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luck Miller. Miller fails to land the takedown. Amaral scores with a hook to the body. Miller takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Miller throws a lazy right hand but Amaral sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Amaral closes the distance and clinches up with Miller, looking for a takedown. Amaral pushes Miller against the cage but Miller circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Miller fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Amaral to the ground. Miller is now in Amaral's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Amaral trying to keep a closed guard but Miller is proving a slippery customer.
Miller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Amaral. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Miller drops back looking for a leg! Amaral is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Amaral manages to kick Miller off! Miller jumps back into Amaral's guard. Miller forces his way into half guard. Miller wants to take a breather but Amaral is having none of it. Amaral trying to hold on to Miller's head to control him but Miller postures up.
Miller stalling. Miller is working for a submission of some sort.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miller is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Amaral has managed to free his arm - good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Miller wants to take a breather but Amaral is having none of it. Amaral works his way to full guard. Good work. Amaral has his foot on Miller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Miller works his way back into a safe position though. Miller throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Amaral not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Miller wants to control from the top but Amaral keeps moving. Miller must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Miller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Amaral swivels though and keeps the full guard. Amaral really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Amaral can't keep his opponent in guard - Miller advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Miller is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Amaral doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Miller. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Miller wants to control but Amaral is keeping him busy. Amaral regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Amaral has his foot on Miller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Miller works his way back into a safe position though. Amaral is breathing heavily. Miller throwing strikes but missing. Miller pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Amaral is keeping the position for now. Miller postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Amaral is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Miller, into his guard. Miller wants to get back to his feet but Amaral is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Miller is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Miller wants a takedown.

Amaral throws a sloppy head kick and Miller moves out of range easily. Amaral fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Miller changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Amaral tries to avoid it but Miller manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Amaral to the ground. Amaral escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Amaral looks to land a combination but Miller avoids it well. Amaral slaps away a takedown attempt from Miller, before circling back to the center of the mat. Amaral stuffs the takedown. Joao Amaral has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luck Miller. Amaral tries for a takedown but Miller sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Miller keeps the fight on the outside. Amaral scores with a three punch combo!
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller shoots in and drives through. Amaral sprawls well. Amaral scores with a push kick. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Miller closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Amaral to the mat! Amaral manages to get full guard. Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Amaral is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Miller is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Miller looking to sit in guard and control but Amaral gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Luck Miller has got the better of the ground game so far. Miller manages to escape and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Amaral fails with the takedown and Miller counters with a shoot takedown. Amaral fights it but they end up in guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Miller drops back, looking for a kneebar! Amaral looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Amaral looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Amaral! Miller is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Amaral asserts his dominance and retains side control. Miller bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Miller shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Amaral defends it nicely. Joao Amaral is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Miller has a takedown stuffed. Joao Amaral seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller takes a kick to the side of the head. Miller shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Amaral as he avoids it easily. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amaral is defended easily by Miller. Miller looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Amaral!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miller wants to finish this one by submission but Amaral is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Miller. Miller looking to ground and pound but Amaral is blocking nicely. Miller is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Amaral is surviving well by controlling Miller's body position as best he can. Miller looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Amaral looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Amaral's jab looks to have found its range, popping Miller under the eye. Miller circles away from the clinch attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Miller. Miller shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Amaral manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Amaral keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully. Miller loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Miller controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller tries to free his leg and advance position but Amaral is retaining full guard. Miller preventing the sweep. Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Amaral is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Amaral is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Both fighters are breathing heavily. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Miller accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Amaral wants to sweep here but Miller controlling him for the moment. Miller pushing down on Amaral's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Miller is just content to waste time from the top position. Amaral takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Miller is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Miller looking to sit in guard and control but Amaral gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Miller is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Miller pushes Amaral off and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Amaral looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Amaral is not content to let Miller control the position. Amaral is being controlled here. Miller is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Amaral is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Miller sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Amaral is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Amaral sneaks back into half guard. Miller is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Amaral is just riding it out for now. Miller eventually gives up the hold. Miller throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Miller is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Amaral doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Miller. Joao Amaral has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Luck Miller is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Miller is keen to just control but Amaral is a slippery customer.
