Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Masters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Lopez! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Masters connects with a leg kick. Lopez looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Masters throws a half hearted mid kick. Masters lets loose with a powerful body kick. Lopez will feel that in the morning. Masters lands with a kick to the ribs.
Lopez shoots in and drives through. Masters sprawls well. Masters misses with a head kick.
Lopez misses with an uppercut. Masters pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lopez takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Lopez is looking to clinch. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lopez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Masters pushes Lopez away with a front kick. Masters throws a hook but Lopez avoids it easily. Masters missing with a left hand there. Lopez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Masters ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Lopez looks gassed! Masters lands with an overhand left. Lopez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Masters was well out of range. Poor timing from Lopez. Masters takes a swing at Lopez's ribcage but misses. Johnny Lopez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lopez tries to clinch there but Masters circles away.

Lopez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Masters moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Masters feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Lopez's calf. A slapping body kick lands there for Masters. Masters cracks Lopez with an open hand slap. Lopez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Masters sprawls well. Masters wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lopez gets slowly back to his feet. Masters throws a sloppy head kick and Lopez moves out of range easily. Lopez avoids the head kick by Masters.
Masters throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Lopez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Chris Masters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Lopez. Masters tries a head kick but it misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopez avoids the head kick by Masters.

Masters leaves Lopez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Masters lands with a straight right. Lopez didn't see that one coming. Masters staying out of range there. Lopez misses the jab. Masters gets caught napping as Lopez dives in and scores a takedown. Masters manages to retain guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Lopez trying to control but Masters is working from the bottom. Masters is looking to stand up but Lopez isn't so interested in that idea. Masters controlling Lopez's posture. Masters looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lopez is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Lopez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Masters misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Masters scores with a head kick. Lopez tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Lopez fails to land with a series of punches.
Masters goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Lopez swings for the body but Masters moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Masters pushes Lopez away with a front kick. Masters looks to score with a jab to the body but Lopez is just out of range. Masters scores with a kick to the body.

Masters walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Lopez checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Lopez fails in his attempt to clinch. Lopez has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Masters. Lopez lands a right hook to the body.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Lopez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Lopez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Masters is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Masters pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jab from Masters. Masters fakes the leg kick and cracks Lopez in the body. Johnny Lopez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Lopez doesn't manage to clinch there - Masters circles away.
Masters stuffs the takedown attempt from Lopez. Lopez gets slowly back to his feet. A slapping body kick lands there for Masters. Lopez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Masters sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Lopez staying out of range there. A head kick from Masters lands but Lopez takes it in his stride. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Masters looks for the body kick but Lopez saw that one coming. A looping hook to the body misses from Lopez. Masters does a little dance to reset his feet. Lopez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Masters knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lopez on the ground. Masters controlling the position for now. Masters is refusing to be controlled, as Lopez sits in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Masters regains full guard. Nicely done. Masters looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lopez is one step ahead there. Lopez trying to control the position from guard on top but Masters is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lopez won't allow Masters to get back to his feet. Masters not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lopez throws an elbow that misses. Masters uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lopez's guard. Nice move by Masters! Lopez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Lopez tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Chris Masters is winning the standup battle so far. Lopez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Masters is pulling down on Lopez's head to control his posture. Lopez trying to control but Masters is working from the bottom.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Lopez throwing strikes but missing. Lopez stopping the sweep attempt from Masters.

Masters throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lopez stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Lopez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Masters sees it coming and avoids it easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Masters misses the shot to the body. Chris Masters is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Masters gets caught flat footed, as Lopez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Masters looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lopez is one step ahead there. Masters is trying to keep Lopez in close.
Lopez pushes down on Masters's leg and manages to get into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This has been an exciting period of action! Lopez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Masters does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lopez wants to work for an arm triangle but Masters is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chris Masters will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Lopez is looking to control Masters's arms but Masters gets an underhook and turns him. Now Lopez has his back to the cage. Lopez tries to work over Masters's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Lopez misses with a body punch.
Masters blocks a body shot from Lopez. Lopez tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Masters lands with a right to the head. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Masters pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Lopez fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Masters swats away the attempt to clinch by Lopez. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Lopez fails with a takedown attempt. Lopez dives in and scores a takedown into Masters's guard. Masters trying to control the position.
Lopez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Lopez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Masters holds on and takes a little breather. Lopez throws a strike but Masters rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Masters controls the pace. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Chris Masters has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Masters jabs at Lopez's body. Masters ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Lopez is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Masters lands a nice leg kick that just misses Lopez's sensitive parts. Masters throws a body punch but Lopez moves out of range. Masters throws a nice outside leg kick. Lopez fails with a takedown attempt. Lopez is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Masters rather than just go for the knockout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Masters throws a head kick that misses. Lopez shoots in for a takedown but Masters shows good takedown defense. A slow jab from Masters misses its intended target. Lopez dodges the punch combination from Masters.

Masters throws a quick inside leg kick. Masters throws a wild body kick that Lopez sees coming a mile off. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Masters takes a jab right on the kisser.
Lopez takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Johnny Lopez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Lopez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Masters.
And that's the end of the fight! Chris Masters showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Masters, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
