Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Samuelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tetsu Oyokawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oyokawa has chosen New Legend as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Samuelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tetsu Oyokawa!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oyokawa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Oyokawa keeps the fight on the outside.
Samuelson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Oyokawa swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Oyokawa swats away the attempt to clinch by Samuelson.

Samuelson attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Oyokawa drags the fight down to the ground.
Samuelson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Oyokawa's guard.

Oyokawa makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Oyokawa.

Samuelson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Samuelson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Oyokawa controls Samuelson momentarily but Samuelson frees himself.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Samuelson tries to close the distance and clinch but Oyokawa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Oyokawa looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Oyokawa showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Samuelson.
The fight stays on the outside here - Samuelson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Samuelson tries to clinch but Oyokawa moves out of range.

Oyokawa shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Samuelson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Oyokawa is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Samuelson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Oyokawa's back instead.
Samuelson lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Samuelson is trying to stick to Oyokawa's back but Oyokawa is turning into Samuelson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Samuelson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Oyokawa.

Samuelson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Oyokawa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Oyokawa, as that shot connected.
Samuelson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Oyokawa tries to avoid it but Samuelson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Oyokawa to the ground. Oyokawa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Samuelson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Oyokawa swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Oyokawa gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Oyokawa jumps guard but Samuelson stands there with Oyokawa around his waist. Oyokawa gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Samuelson tries to pull guard but Oyokawa holds him up against the cage and eventually Samuelson drops back down to his feet.
Oyokawa drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Samuelson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Samuelson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Samuelson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Samuelson is posturing up here but Oyokawa has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Samuelson tries to roll out but it's too tight and Samuelson has to tap! Slick submission there by Oyokawa!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Tetsu Oyokawa!
