And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Shardlow!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Chad Campbell and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shardlow gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Aberton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Shardlow throws a leg kick which misses Aberton's front leg but catches the back leg as Aberton tries to avoid it.
Aberton is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Shardlow counters with a stiff right hand.

Aberton dives in and scores a takedown into Shardlow's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Shardlow shoots in for a double leg but Aberton sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Aberton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Aberton is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shardlow wants to pass the guard but Aberton is keeping the position.

Aberton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Aberton throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shardlow.

Shardlow moves into the clinch.
Shardlow has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Aberton avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Shardlow jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Aberton walks away with a smile on his face. Shardlow gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Aberton closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shardlow's guard.

Shardlow has his foot on Aberton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Aberton works his way back into a safe position though.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Aberton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Shardlow wants to stand and escape but Aberton is having none of it.

Aberton throws an elbow that misses. Shardlow uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Aberton's guard. Nice move by Shardlow!

Aberton lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shardlow!

Shardlow is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Shardlow wants to hold on but Aberton pushes him away.
Aberton is landing with some decent strikes but Shardlow is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Aberton is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Shardlow can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Aberton here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Shardlow has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Aberton is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Shardlow takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Aberton is trying to keep Shardlow in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aberton is pulling down on Shardlow's head to control his posture.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Aberton, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
