Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Gonzalez's choice of entrance music: eye of the tiger. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Diego Gonzalez! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gonzalez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there. Gonzalez tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg. Gonzalez trying to control but Smith postures up.
Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Gonzalez is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Gonzalez moves into full guard.
Gonzalez wants to stand and escape but Smith is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gonzalez looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Gonzalez throws his legs up looking for a submission but Smith uses it to pass to side control.
Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Gonzalez is looking to get back to his feet here but Smith is keeping cool and he's managed to take Gonzalez's back. Smith keeps control of the position easily here as Gonzalez tries to buck him off.
Smith is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Gonzalez has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is persistently looking for the submission but Gonzalez is defending it well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Smith is trying to stick to Gonzalez's back but Gonzalez is turning into Smith. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Smith's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gonzalez. Smith keeping moving, preventing Gonzalez from controlling successfully. Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gonzalez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith is breathing heavily. Gonzalez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smith works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Smith wants to sweep but no luck. Gonzalez stops Smith from standing up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gonzalez wants to stand but Smith has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Gonzalez trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gonzalez throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Smith thows a big elbow that misses.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Gonzalez has his takedown stuffed and Smith counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Gonzalez manages to get to full guard.
Gonzalez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gonzalez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Smith prevents Gonzalez from getting back to his feet. Gonzalez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there. Gonzalez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Gonzalez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Smith is fighting to break Gonzalez's control of his arms but Gonzalez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fight stays on the outside here - Gonzalez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Gonzalez looking to control and managing it successfully. The referee warns Smith that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Smith is trying desperately to improve position. Gonzalez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round. Smith is looking to improve his position but Gonzalez isn't that keen on the idea. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Gonzalez lands a big elbow. Gonzalez looking to control but Smith is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Smith is looking to improve his position but Gonzalez isn't that keen on the idea. Smith wants to hold on but Gonzalez pushes him away. Gonzalez wants to control the pace but Smith is squirming around nicely. James Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Smith is in a horrible position here. Gonzalez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Gonzalez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Smith can't escape the position.
Gonzalez tries to control but Smith wriggling away. Smith is trying to reverse the position but instead Gonzalez has taken his back - oops! Gonzalez looking to break Smith's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Smith remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Gonzalez will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Smith is really stuck here.
Gonzalez is punishing Smith with strikes - can he finish him?! Gonzalez is hanging on to Smith's back as he tries to escape.
Gonzalez trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Smith doesn't escape. Smith trying to control the hands but Gonzalez breaks the grip.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith tries to escape but Gonzalez has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Gonzalez is riding his opponent, not letting Smith buck him off. Gonzalez lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Gonzalez is looking to control Smith but Smith is wriggling around and keeping busy. Gonzalez is working an open guard so Smith takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Smith changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gonzalez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Smith wants to control but Gonzalez is keeping him busy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Diego Gonzalez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Smith moves into range and clinches up with Gonzalez. Gonzalez can't break the clinch.
Smith is trying to trip Gonzalez. He has hold of a leg but Gonzalez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Smith persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Smith drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gonzalez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smith has Gonzalez in his guard. Smith has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Gonzalez doesn't defend quickly enough and Smith has managed to lock this one up! Can Gonzalez escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Smith on a fantastic submission victory.
