PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maiquel Graice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Graice's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Killing In The Name - RATM. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Miller!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Graice doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Miller counters with a shoot takedown. Graice fights it but they end up in guard.
Graice wants to hit a switch here but Miller passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Graice there!

Miller working for a submission but Graice is keeping him at bay.
Miller can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Graice is looking to escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miller throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Graice is squirming around, avoiding Miller's attempts to control the action.

Miller has hold of Graice's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Graice manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Miller misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Miller swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Graice is now in Miller's guard. A big mistake from Miller there, giving up the dominant position!

Graice really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Graice would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Graice thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Graice loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Miller drives through with a takedown into guard.
Miller trying to control but Graice is working from the bottom.
Miller passes Graice's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Graice is pressing down on Miller's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Miller must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Miller seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Graice will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Miller postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Graice is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Miller, into his guard.

Graice drops back looking for a leg! Miller is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Miller manages to kick Graice off! Graice jumps back into Miller's guard.

Graice is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Miller is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Miller has escaped and now he's on top!

Miller slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Graice is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Graice manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Graice takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Graice tries to free his leg and advance position but Miller is retaining full guard.

Miller is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Graice drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Graice jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Miller tries to strike from the bottom.
Miller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Graice. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Graice wants to stand but Miller has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Graice missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Miller is on top in guard.
Miller is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Miller has eaten all the pies!

Graice looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Miller working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Miller wants to stand but Graice is controlling his posture from full guard.
Miller throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Graice is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Miller defends well.
Miller wants to pass the guard but Graice is keeping the position.

Miller slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Graice is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Graice has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Miller can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Miller decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Graice, up you get!

Miller shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

John Miller is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Miller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
