Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rafael dos Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Cox! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! dos Santos misses with a low kick.
dos Santos fails in his attempt to clinch. Cox tries to clinch up but dos Santos circles away and keeps his distance. Cox throws a combination but it was largely blocked by dos Santos. Some bone on bone action there as dos Santos checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Cox pulls out of a head kick attempt.
dos Santos throws a series of punches but Cox avoids them all with ease. dos Santos misses with a low kick. Cox throws a left that rocks dos Santos and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Cox dives into side control, looking to finish! Can dos Santos regain composure!
It looks like Rafael dos Santos has been cut. Cox creates some space and throws a big elbow, but dos Santos sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. dos Santos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cox wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. dos Santos regains half guard. dos Santos trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cox is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's one minute gone in the round. dos Santos moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. dos Santos tries to land a sweep but no joy. dos Santos is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cox stopping the sweep attempt from dos Santos.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Cox looking to sit in guard and control but dos Santos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Cox throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. dos Santos seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Cox is trying to keep dos Santos in close.
That's three minutes gone in the round. dos Santos trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Cox is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cox tries to land a sweep but no joy. dos Santos drops back looking for a leg! Cox is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cox manages to kick dos Santos off! dos Santos jumps back into Cox's guard. dos Santos is breathing heavily. dos Santos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A chopping leg kick lands by Cox. Cox fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt dos Santos. A solid leg kick lands there for Cox.
Cox lands a right hook to the body.
A left and a right from Cox both land. Nice combination. dos Santos decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Cox misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. dos Santos seems to be working for a kimura but Cox defends the submission attempt. Cox keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cox attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Rafael dos Santos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A combination from Cox does no damage. Cox misses with a takedown and dos Santos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by dos Santos. Cox looking for submissions from the bottom but instead dos Santos passes into half guard.
dos Santos has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Cox avoids a series of strikes thrown by dos Santos.
Cox tries to reverse the position but dos Santos maintains control.
That's one minute gone in the round. dos Santos fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cox wants to hold on but dos Santos pushes him away. dos Santos looking to control but Cox is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. dos Santos putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Cox tries to control the position but dos Santos now has his back.
Cox tries to escape but dos Santos has the hooks in and won't let him break free. dos Santos punches the canvas rather than the man. dos Santos is hanging on to Cox's back as he tries to escape.
Cox turns into dos Santos and is now in his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. dos Santos looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cox is one step ahead there. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cox passes into half guard. Cox is looking to advance position but dos Santos won't allow it. Cox prevents dos Santos from improving his position. dos Santos is refusing to be controlled, as Cox sits in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cox stands up from half guard. Cox moves in looking to clinch but dos Santos pushes him off. Cox fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with dos Santos, pushing him back against the cage. Cox breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Cox throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The fight moves into the clinch position. Cox tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. dos Santos just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cox's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. dos Santos wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Stalling in the clinch from Cox.
with the fighters clinched against the cage, Cox creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. dos Santos shoots for a takedown but Cox saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Cox tries to clinch up. Cox looks to clinch and dos Santos counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Cox isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. dos Santos stacks Cox on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by dos Santos! Cox manages to work his way to half guard, despite dos Santos's best efforts. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rafael dos Santos dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Rafael dos Santos's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Cox throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Cox attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Cox digs a good hook to dos Santos's body.
Cox cracks a nice hook into dos Santos's ribs. Cox lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cox. Mike Cox seems to be getting the better of the standup. Cox feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Cox really doesn't want to stay on the ground with dos Santos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cox wants to stand and escape but instead dos Santos has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Cox throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Cox tries to reverse the position but dos Santos maintains control. dos Santos is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by dos Santos!
