Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Baroa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, High Lighter! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lighter throws a hook but Baroa avoids it easily. Lighter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Baroa. Lighter lands a left and a right that sends Baroa crashing to the canvas! Lighter dives into mount looking to finish!
It looks like Jose Baroa has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Lighter working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Lighter working for a guillotine from mount but Baroa is in no mood to give up. Lighter looking to control but Baroa is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Lighter is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Baroa can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Baroa tries to lock up and control but Lighter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Lighter working for a guillotine from mount but Baroa is in no mood to give up. Baroa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baroa is squirming around, avoiding Lighter's attempts to control the action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lighter looking to control and managing it successfully. Baroa gets back to half guard. Baroa is looking to control Lighter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Baroa avoid being mounted? Lighter is working for a kimura but Baroa is defending it quite comfortably.

Baroa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lighter pulls his head out easily. The fighters are battling for position here. Baroa manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Lighter postures up.
Lighter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lighter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Baroa looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Baroa looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Baroa! Lighter is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lighter is not content to let Baroa control the position. Baroa is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. The strikes coming from Baroa are missing the target in this wave of attacks. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lighter looks to move to half guard but instead Baroa has passed into mount! Damn! Baroa throws some wild stikes that Lighter manages to avoid easily.

High Lighter dominated that round. The cut man is working on Jose Baroa's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Baroa is really struggling to control Lighter but he's trying to hold on to the position. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Lighter preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Baroa. Jose Baroa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lighter is looking to improve his position but Baroa isn't that keen on the idea. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lighter is breathing heavily. Lighter wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Baroa.
Lighter tries to hold on but Baroa pushes him away. Baroa wants to stand but Lighter is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

Lighter is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Baroa pulls his head out easily. Baroa is trying to control the action in half guard but Lighter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Baroa escapes and gets back to his feet. Lighter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Baroa throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lighter works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Baroa passes easily into side control. Nice work. Baroa is looking to take a break and control but Lighter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lighter is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Baroa off and has taken his back! Baroa rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Baroa makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Baroa. Baroa keeping moving, preventing Lighter from controlling successfully. Lighter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Baroa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lighter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lighter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Lighter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Lighter wants to control from the top but Baroa keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Baroa trying to keep a closed guard but Lighter is proving a slippery customer.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Lighter looking to sit in guard and control but Baroa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Baroa passes Lighter's left leg - he's now in half guard. Lighter is staying active underneath Baroa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lighter wants to improve his position but Baroa is controlling well.
Baroa wants to take a breather but Lighter is having none of it. Lighter is looking to control Baroa's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lighter avoid being mounted? Baroa wants to control but Lighter is keeping him busy.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Jose Baroa wasn't doing enough on the ground. Baroa dives in and scores a takedown into Lighter's guard. Baroa stays in close to Lighter's body and controls the position. Lighter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Baroa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lighter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Baroa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Lighter had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Baroa defends it easily. Baroa tries to stand but Lighter is controlling from the bottom. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Baroa trying to control the position from guard on top but Lighter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that's the end of the fight! Jose Baroa showed his dominance in that final round. I think Baroa has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
