Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Pete Doherty! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Trent Boyett! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boyett is looking to slow Doherty down with leg kicks. Boyett misses the shot to the body. Boyett moves into range and clinches up with Doherty. Boyett gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Doherty.
Boyett's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Doherty is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Boyett can't fight it off and eventually Doherty manages to take the fight to the floor. Boyett looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Doherty drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Boyett dives on top into guard. Doherty not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Boyett trying to control but Doherty is working from the bottom. Doherty tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boyett stands up from guard. Let's bang! Boyett tries to bum rush Doherty with a series of wild strikes but Doherty uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Boyett misses with a hook. A punch combination from Boyett misses. Boyett fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Trent Boyett is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Boyett throws a series of punches but Doherty avoids them all with ease. Doherty fails with the takedown. Doherty feints and then cracks Boyett's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Boyett down. Boyett misses with a straight right. Doherty changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Boyett looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. An elbow from Doherty crashes against the mat.

You can see the frustration on Boyett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Boyett is not content to let Doherty control the position. Doherty is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Boyett knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Boyett is not content to let Doherty control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Doherty darts in trying to clinch and Boyett counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Boyett fails in his attempt to clinch. Boyett connects with a good right hand that stumbles Doherty. Doherty circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Boyett throws a series of punches but Doherty avoids them all with ease. Boyett throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Doherty wants to land a leg kick but Boyett is out of range. Doherty fails with an attempt to clinch.
Boyett throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Boyett throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Doherty scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Boyett is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Doherty has just dragged him back down to the mat. Boyett stops Doherty from passing to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Doherty thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Boyett gets back to half guard. Boyett is looking for a sweep. Doherty is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Doherty is thwarting Boyett's attempts to control the position. Boyett kicks Doherty off and gets back to his feet. Boyett looks to land a combination but Doherty avoids it well. Doherty clinches up with Boyett and pushes him back against the cage. Doherty tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Doherty jumps guard but Boyett stands there with Doherty around his waist. Doherty gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Doherty has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Boyett down to the mat. Boyett avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Boyett throws a shot to the body.

Doherty closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Doherty lands in his opponent's guard. Boyett looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boyett working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Doherty. Doherty is looking to work some ground and pound but Boyett has wrist control. Boyett is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Doherty is controlling him. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Doherty accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Boyett keeping moving, preventing Doherty from controlling successfully. Boyett looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doherty is one step ahead there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Boyett seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boyett has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Boyett there as he acknowledges the shot. Boyett misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Trent Boyett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Boyett displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Doherty throws out the jab. That was a close fourth round but I would say that Pete Doherty will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
