PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Khyam Akhtar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jules Kingston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Khyam Akhtar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jules Kingston!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akhtar tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kingston manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Kingston gets a clinch.
Kingston has Akhtar pressed against the cage, preventing Akhtar from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Kingston unloads a knee to the mid-section. Akhtar lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Kingston manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Kingston has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Akhtar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kingston is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Akhtar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Akhtar wants to control from the top but Kingston keeps moving.
Akhtar is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We're going to have a standup here because Khyam Akhtar wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Akhtar doesn't manage to clinch there - Kingston circles away.

Kingston gets the takedown into side control.
Kingston wants to control but Akhtar is keeping him busy.
Akhtar isn't going anywhere.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jules Kingston hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Kingston tries to close the distance and clinch but Akhtar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kingston throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Akhtar is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Akhtar tries to keep at a distance but Kingston has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kingston has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Akhtar is trying to keep an underhook but Kingston manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Kingston is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Akhtar is staying active underneath Kingston, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kingston landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Kingston seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Kingston seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Akhtar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kingston is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kingston wants to lay and pray for a moment but Akhtar keeps working.

Akhtar is refusing to be controlled, as Kingston sits in half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jules Kingston hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Kingston rushes Akhtar and presses him up against the cage.
Akhtar wants to break the clinch but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kingston jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Akhtar walks away with a smile on his face. Kingston gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Akhtar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kingston is looking to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jules Kingston dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Akhtar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kingston circles away quickly and effectively.
Kingston wants to clinch.
Akhtar shoots and misses
and Kingston makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Akhtar really felt that one!
Akhtar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kingston is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kingston defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Akhtar.

Kingston has managed to clinch.

Kingston has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Akhtar uses from the top position.
Akhtar tries to stand but Kingston is controlling from the bottom.
Kingston manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Akhtar manages to get himself to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kingston is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Akhtar sees it coming and defends easily.
Akhtar is looking for a sweep. Kingston is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kingston is looking to take a break and control but Akhtar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kingston wants to lay and pray for a moment but Akhtar keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Akhtar is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kingston scores with a couple of nice shots.

Kingston drops an elbow to the side of Akhtar's head.
Akhtar wants to control but Kingston is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Akhtar shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kingston as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Khyam Akhtar. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kingston closes the distance and clinches.

Kingston jumps guard and drags Akhtar to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Kingston is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kingston wants to stand up but Akhtar is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jules Kingston showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Akhtar fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kingston avoids it really well and circles away.

Kingston instigates a clinch.
Akhtar tries to land a knee to the head but Kingston blocks with his arms.

Kingston has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Akhtar clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Akhtar tries to escape but Kingston has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Kingston lands strikes to the head.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Akhtar trying to control but not successfully.

Kingston has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Akhtar! Can he survive? No! He's out! Kingston gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jules Kingston!
