The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Nicholls or perhaps it was just good defense by Bott which made him look bad.
Nicholls misses with a takedown
and Bott counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Nicholls's guard now.
Nicholls lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bott!
Bott looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Nicholls controls the action.
Bott covering up well and avoiding damage.
Nicholls keeps control of the position as Bott tries to break free.

Nicholls is trying to stick to Bott's back but Bott is turning into Nicholls. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Nicholls's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Bott.

Nicholls jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Bott manages to avoid the submission attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bott tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nicholls wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Nicholls wants to control but Bott is keeping him busy.

Bott is trying to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on Bott's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Bott is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nicholls is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Nicholls tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nicholls has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bott knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nicholls on the ground.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bott tries to reverse the position but Nicholls maintains control.
Nicholls working for a guillotine from mount but Bott is in no mood to give up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Nicholls dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!
Bott tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nicholls paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bott shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nicholls as he avoids it easily.
Nicholls has managed to clinch.
Nicholls lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Bott backwards.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Bott is trying to break the clinch but Nicholls is controlling him.
Bott blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Bott gets underhooks to prevent Nicholls's takedown attempt.
Bott fails to pull guard.
Bott jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Nicholls walks away with a smile on his face. Bott gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Spar Bott. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nicholls swats away the attempt to clinch by Bott.
Bott shoots in and drives through. Nicholls sprawls well.

Nicholls leaves Bott with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bott fails with a takedown attempt.
Nicholls throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bott tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Nicholls is in Bott's guard.
Nicholls slips nicely into half guard.
Nicholls is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Nicholls lands a big elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bott tries to hold on but Nicholls postures up.
Nicholls manages to capitalize on a mistake by Bott to take his back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well, with Nicholls on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Bott is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Nicholls has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Bott has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Peter Nicholls has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bott tries to break free.

I really don't envy Bott right now.
Bott trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Nicholls has the hooks in. Bott is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
