PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Urpo Nyrkki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manuel Carraretto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manuel Carraretto told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Urpo Nyrkki!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Manuel Carraretto!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Nyrkki enables Carraretto to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Nyrkki manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Carraretto with a flurry of punches that miss.
Nyrkki bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carraretto's guard.
Carraretto tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Nyrkki trying to control but Carraretto is working from the bottom.
Carraretto wants to improve his position but instead Nyrkki has moved into half guard.
Carraretto wants to get back to full guard.
Carraretto is looking to control Nyrkki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carraretto avoid being mounted?
Carraretto wants to improve his position but Nyrkki is controlling well.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Carraretto is looking for a sweep. Nyrkki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Carraretto wants to control but Nyrkki is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Carraretto on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Nyrkki. Nyrkki obviously looking to wear him down.
Carraretto tries a head kick but it misses.
Carraretto tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nyrkki goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Carraretto takes a jab right on the kisser.
Carraretto misses with a kick to the body.
Carraretto misses with a takedown attempt - Nyrkki sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Carraretto connects with a body shot.
Carraretto throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Carraretto.
Carraretto just misses with a punch to the body.
Nyrkki pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Carraretto cracks a nice hook into Nyrkki's ribs.
Manuel Carraretto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carraretto looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Carraretto takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Nyrkki avoids the body shot from Carraretto.
Nyrkki misses with a body kick.
Nyrkki looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Carraretto is looking to clinch but Nyrkki is avoiding it.
Carraretto fails in his attempt to clinch.
Carraretto tests Nyrkki's chin there with a solid looking shot.
The fighters circling - Carraretto throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Carraretto finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Nyrkki with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Carraretto to score with a decent uppercut.


It looks like Urpo Nyrkki has been cut.
Carraretto tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nyrkki paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Carraretto throws a low kick but it's checked well by Nyrkki.
Nyrkki throws a sloppy head kick and Carraretto moves out of range easily.
Carraretto shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Urpo Nyrkki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manuel Carraretto.
Carraretto avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Nyrkki throws a nice outside leg kick.
Nyrkki throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Carraretto gets a double leg takedown into Nyrkki's guard.
Nyrkki is adopting a defensive guard.
Carraretto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Nyrkki has his hands on Carraretto's head, controlling the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nyrkki working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Carraretto.
Carraretto slips nicely into half guard.
Nyrkki is trying to control but Carraretto passes into side control!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carraretto throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Carraretto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Nyrkki is trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Urpo Nyrkki's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Carraretto lands with a good body shot.
Carraretto bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Nyrkki's head.
Carraretto throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Nyrkki counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A jab from Nyrkki finds it's way through Carraretto's defenses.
Sloppy strikes from Carraretto. Those never looked like landing.
Carraretto waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Nyrkki.
Carraretto avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Carraretto closes the distance and pushes Nyrkki back into the cage.
Nyrkki misses with a short punch on the inside.
Carraretto tries a body shot but Nyrkki blocks it.
Carraretto scores with a knee to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carraretto throws a head punch that misses.
Nyrkki digs a right hand into Carraretto's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Carraretto's gas tank.
Carraretto tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Nyrkki avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nyrkki tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Carraretto's elbow.
Nyrkki throws a punch but it's blocked by Carraretto.
Carraretto trying to land knees to the body.
Nyrkki misses with a hook to the ribs.
Carraretto can't find room to land a body shot as Nyrkki controls the action.
Nyrkki misses with a knee to the head.
Carraretto is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Nyrkki lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Carraretto backwards.
Carraretto using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Nyrkki has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Carraretto breaks from the clinch.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Nyrkki.
Carraretto lands a glancing blow to the side of Nyrkki's head.
Carraretto throws a quick inside leg kick.
Carraretto avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nyrkki takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Carraretto tests Nyrkki's chin there with a solid looking shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carraretto moves out of range of the strikes.

Carraretto closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nyrkki to the mat! Nyrkki manages to get full guard.
Carraretto pushes down on Nyrkki's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Nyrkki blocking the ground and pound attempt from Carraretto.
Nyrkki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carraretto is working away from the top position though.
Carraretto is pressing down on Nyrkki's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nyrkki is holding on for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Carraretto is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Manuel Carraretto has got the better of the ground game so far.
Carraretto not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Carraretto winds up and cracks Nyrkki with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Nyrkki won't allow Carraretto to pass to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carraretto throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nyrkki avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Carraretto.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carraretto is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Nyrkki trying to control here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nyrkki is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Carraretto is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Carraretto moves into full mount! Nyrkki won't be happy about that!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carraretto landing strikes from the mount.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nyrkki in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manuel Carraretto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nyrkki steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Carraretto. That one must have hurt.


Urpo Nyrkki's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Urpo Nyrkki's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:10 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Manuel Carraretto!
Manuel Carraretto is the new middleweight champion!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Manuel Carraretto waved his t-shirt featuring - - - - - All Nutrients 160 - - - - -'s logo in front of the cameras.
