PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Crillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Crillo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Jay Z - Empire State of Mind. Steele has chosen The Pixies - Tame as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frank Crillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dick Steele!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crillo gets a takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Crillo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Steele knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Steele is looking to control Crillo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Steele avoid being mounted?
Crillo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Steele really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Crillo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Crillo winds up and cracks Steele with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Crillo thows a huge punch but Steele dodges it nicely.
Steele wants to improve his position but Crillo is controlling well.

Well, if Crillo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Crillo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Steele's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Crillo looking for a submission but Steele manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Crillo postures up and lands a big shot to Steele's brow.

Crillo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Steele utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Crillo throws a strike but Steele rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Crillo is pulling down on Steele's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Crillo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Crillo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Crillo breaks from Steele's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Crillo is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Steele can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Crillo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Steele can do to turn this around?
Crillo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Steele is in a horrible position here. Crillo smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Crillo is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Steele can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Frank Crillo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee warns Steele that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


Steele is rocked!

Steele has left one of his arms exposed and Crillo doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Steele screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frank Crillo!
