PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Owen Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Kawalew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kawalew has chosen Barney song as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chris Kawalew!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawalew lands with a straight right. Williams didn't see that one coming.

Williams digs a right hand into Kawalew's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Kawalew's gas tank.

Kawalew pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kawalew shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Williams defends it nicely.

Williams lands a left hand that snaps the head of Kawalew backwards.


It looks like Chris Kawalew has been cut.

Kawalew fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Williams tries a body shot but Kawalew blocks it.
Williams's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Kawalew can't break the clinch.

Owen Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Kawalew.
Kawalew is trying to force a seperation but Williams has the dominant position.

Williams tries to close the distance and clinch but Kawalew swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kawalew cracks Williams with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Williams moves into the clinch.
Kawalew tries to circle away but Williams has him pinned against the cage.
Kawalew wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Williams has him pressed against the cage.
Kawalew has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Kawalew tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Williams just stands there and leans against the cage.
Williams is struggling to control the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kawalew is trying to break free.
Williams tries a body shot but Kawalew blocks it.
Kawalew goes for a takedown in the clinch but Williams prevents it.

Williams keeps control of Kawalew as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
A head punch on the inside from Williams fails to land.

Williams ducks under a wild hook from Kawalew.
Williams doesn't manage to clinch there - Kawalew circles away.
Kawalew swats away the attempt to clinch by Williams.
Kawalew misses with a takedown attempt - Williams sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Williams is looking to clinch.
Kawalew looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Williams is fending him off so far but Kawalew persists. Nope, Williams circles away and we're back to standing.
Williams throws a jab but it's blocked by Kawalew.
Williams tries to clinch but Kawalew moves out of range.
Chris Kawalew seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kawalew shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Williams tries to clinch up.
Kawalew throws a series of punches but Williams avoids them all with ease.

Williams drops Kawalew with a beautiful combination! Kawalew stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Williams is looking for the KO!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kawalew tries to break free but Williams pushes him back against the cage.

A left hand lands to the body for Williams.
Kawalew looks gassed!
Williams lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Kawalew or not.
Williams is working Kawalew over against the cage.
Kawalew is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A nice right hand lands inside from Williams.
Williams creates some distance for himselfand unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Kawalew's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Kawalew drops to his knees and Williams pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Owen Williams!
