Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spinbob Cantrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker comes to the cage accompanied by Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold. Cantrell has chosen Scorpions - Winds of Change as his entrance music. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Walker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Spinbob Cantrell! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cantrell gets a clinch. The referee calls for Cantrell to work.
Still in the clinch, Cantrell scores with a nice short uppercut. Walker has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Cantrell is trying to keep an underhook but Walker manages to get the takedown into half guard. Walker wants to pass to mount but Cantrell is defending the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cantrell wants to control but Walker is keeping busy.
Walker prevents Cantrell from improving his position. Cantrell wants to control but Walker is keeping busy and won't allow it. Walker trying to pass the guard but Cantrell defending well. Walker is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cantrell has managed to free his arm - good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Walker is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cantrell sees it coming and defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walker wants to advance to full mount but Cantrell doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Walker trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Cantrell manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Walker is pulling down on Cantrell's head. It's preventing any offense from Cantrell, at least for the moment. Walker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cantrell is one step ahead there. Walker is working hard here to advance position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cantrell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Walker is proving hard to escape from. Cantrell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Cantrell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Cantrell is looking to slow Walker down with leg kicks. Cantrell tries to land a front kick but Walker steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. A combination from Walker does no damage. Cantrell misses the shot to the body. Walker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cantrell's waist but Cantrell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Walker off to one side. Walker misses with a two punch combination.
Spinbob Cantrell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Walker moves out of range of the body kick from Cantrell.
Walker keeps the fight on the outside. Cantrell pulls out of a head kick attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cantrell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cantrell wants it to stay on the feet. A solid body kick from Cantrell. Cantrell steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Walker. Walker jabbing away but nothing is landing. Walker moves out of range of the body kick. Cantrell cracks the inside of Walker's front leg. Walker misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cantrell throws a low kick but Walker moves out of range easily. Cantrell misses with a looping right. Walker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Cantrell! Cantrell tries to hold on but Walker postures up. Walker swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cantrell is now in Walker's guard. A big mistake from Walker there, giving up the dominant position! Walker looking to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cantrell stopping the sweep attempt from Walker. Walker wriggles free and stands up. Walker looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cantrell is fending him off so far but Walker persists. Nope, Cantrell circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Walker. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cantrell pivots, looking for a leg kick but Walker is out of range and Cantrell settles back down. Cantrell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Walker, as that shot connected.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. A momentary lapse in concentration from Cantrell enables Walker to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cantrell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Cantrell managing to control the position. Walker tries to free his leg and advance position but Cantrell is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Paul Walker will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Walker throws out a loose jab but Cantrell uses good head movement to avoid it. Cantrell throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Walker sees it coming and avoids it easily. Cantrell scoring well with a low kick there.
Walker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cantrell. Cantrell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Walker scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Cantrell will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Walker moves out of range of the body kick from Cantrell.
Walker looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Walker with a poor takedown and Cantrell counters with an inside leg kick. Cantrell blocks a jab. Cantrell chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Walker closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Walker stalling away here and it's allowed Cantrell to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Cantrell trying to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round. Walker passes easily into side control. Nice work. Cantrell is not content to let Walker control the position. Cantrell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Walker wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Walker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Cantrell is not content to let Walker control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Walker is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cantrell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Walker swings around for an armbar but Cantrell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Walker's guard. Walker wants to sweep but no luck. Walker is looking to sweep but instead, Cantrell has passed into half guard.

Cantrell gets to his feet - Walker follows without any prompting. Cantrell throws the kick towards the body but Walker avoids it. Cantrell moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Walker stuns Cantrell with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Walker fails with a takedown attempt. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cantrell throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Walker. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cantrell throws a looping overhand right but Walker ducks down to avoid it. Cantrell cracks Walker with a good jab. Walker takes one on the button. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Spinbob Cantrell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Cantrell lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Walker jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

and Walker counters with a stiff right hand. Nice takedown defense from Cantrell. No joy for Walker on that attempt. Cantrell tries a low kick but Walker avoids it. A lazy left from Cantrell finds it's target. Walker throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Walker avoids the head kick by Cantrell.
Walker misses the shot to the body. Walker misses with a wild body shot. Nice straight punches there by Walker. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Walker. Spinbob Cantrell seems to be getting the better of the standup. Cantrell bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Cantrell is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Walker. Cantrell showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Walker.
Walker tries to move into range but Cantrell moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walker closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Cantrell is looking to regain half guard here but Walker keeps moving and retains side control. Walker working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Cantrell regains half guard, as Walker was trying to land strikes. Cantrell is looking to control Walker's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cantrell avoid being mounted? Walker is trying to control the action in half guard but Cantrell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Walker is stalling here. Cantrell is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Walker seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Cantrell has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Walker is looking for a sweep. Walker struggling a bit here. Cantrell trying to control the action but Walker is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Walker sneaks back into half guard. Walker manages to get to full guard.
Walker keeping moving, preventing Cantrell from controlling successfully. Walker looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cantrell puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Cantrell is trying to control the action in half guard but Walker is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Paul Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Walker wants to get back to full guard but Cantrell has mounted him! Walker stops Cantrell from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Walker is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cantrell trying to control but he's not successful this time. Walker is looking to improve his position but Cantrell isn't that keen on the idea. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Paul Walker. I think Walker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
