Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rashad Evans! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tom Redding! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Evans fails to land the takedown. Evans lands with a cross.
It looks like Tom Redding has been cut. Redding is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Evans. Evans closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Redding quickly recovers to half guard. Redding is looking to escape. Redding is looking to control Evans's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Redding avoid being mounted? Redding tries to roll over but Evans keeps him under control. Evans looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Redding avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Evans looking to sit in guard and control but Redding gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Evans pulls Redding in close to prevent any damage. Redding stands up from guard. Let's bang! Evans fails with a takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Redding throws a big shot that misses. Evans takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
It looks like Rashad Evans has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A punch combination from Evans misses. Nice defenses there by Evans. Redding loads up on a big right hand but Evans slips the punch. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Evans, as that shot connected.
Redding throws the left hand but Evans avoids the punch easily. Redding misses the jab. Redding throws a jab but it's blocked by Evans. Evans misses with a takedown attempt and Evans takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rashad Evans. That's going to take a lot out of him. Evans shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Redding defends it nicely. Evans misses with a takedown attempt - Redding sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Tom Redding is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Redding lands with a shot to the body. Redding misses with a lunging right hand
and Evans counters with a nice double leg into guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Redding can do anything to dispel that myth. Evans working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Redding wants to stand up but Evans is controlling him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Evans accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Redding managing to control the position. This has been an exciting period of action! Redding is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Evans throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Redding works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Evansis looking to pass into half guard but Redding pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Redding is in guard. Redding trying to control the position from guard on top but Evans is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Redding avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Redding trying to control but Evans is working from the bottom. Evans working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Redding. Evans is trying to keep Redding in close.
Redding wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving. Evans will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Evans is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Redding controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tom Redding wasn't active enough on the ground. Evans gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Redding cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tom Redding dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Both fighters circle each other, looking for something big. Redding moves in and throws an overhand right. That hurt Evans! Redding continues to tee off on Evans, landing with a left and a right! Redding connects with a right hand that leaves Evans sleeping against the cage! What a finish by Redding!
