The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tamura closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sasaki quickly recovers to half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Tamura stands up and beckons Sasaki to join him on the feet.
Sasaki moves to clinch but Tamura breaks away
and Tamura counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sasaki won't be happy with that.
Tamura moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tamura is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sasaki is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sasaki is trying to maintain the position but Tamura is very close to passing his half guard.

Tamura looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sasaki with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Tamura stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

and Tamura holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sasaki wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Tamura has him pressed against the cage.
Sasaki is defending well against a takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tamura drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Horrible takedown by Sasaki or perhaps it was just good defense by Tamura which made him look bad.

Tamura working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sasaki's head.
Yukinari Tamura overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Yukinari Tamura.

Sasaki tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tamura sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sasaki somewhat.
Sasaki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tamura tries to avoid it but Sasaki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tamura to the ground. Tamura escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tamura fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sasaki avoids it really well and circles away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tamura, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
