PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Neithan Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Sanderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hardy comes to the cage accompanied by X Japan - Kurenai. Sanderson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by I Run the Military. Dan Sanderson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Sanderson!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Donald Grub and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hardy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sanderson.
Hardy lands a lovely overhand right.
Sanderson avoids the head kick by Hardy.
Sanderson wants to clinch up but Hardy keeps it at a distance.

Sanderson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Hardy is doing well to control the position and prevent Sanderson from advancing to side control.

Sanderson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Sanderson slips a nice elbow through Hardy's hands, connecting with Hardy's forehead.

Hardy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sanderson performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sanderson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sanderson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dan Sanderson was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hardy throws a series of punches but Sanderson avoids them all with ease.
Hardy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanderson.
Hardy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sanderson was well out of range. Poor timing from Hardy.

Sanderson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hardy pinned against the cage. Hardy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A decent looking cross lands there for Hardy.
Sanderson tries for a takedown but Hardy sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Neithan Hardy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hardy's waist but Hardy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanderson off to one side.
Neithan Hardy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Sanderson.
Hardy works over Sanderson's head and body with a nice combination.

Hardy gets caught flat footed, as Sanderson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sanderson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sanderson tries to advance to mount but Hardy denies him.
Hardy is letting Sanderson control him for a moment.
You can see the frustration on Hardy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sanderson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sanderson is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Hardy looks calm but he's in trouble here. Sanderson gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Hardy is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Sanderson lets go of the hold and Hardy can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dan Sanderson!
A relieved looking Dan Sanderson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
