Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rico Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taylor Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garza kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Run This Town. Rico Garza could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Taylor Smith's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rico Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Taylor Smith!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garza gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smith scoring with punches to the head and body.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith looking to pass the guard.
Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Garza is retaining full guard.
Smith won't allow Garza to get back to his feet.
Garza preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Smith lands a couple of elbows.
Smith stands and steps away. Garza gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Smith shoots in and bounces Garza off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith postures up in Garza's guard and throws a big left but Garza blocks it.
Smith passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Garza is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Check out the look on Smith's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Garza is pushing Smith's head away, looking to escape. Smith manages to hold on to the position though.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Smith advances nicely into full mount.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Garza wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Smith is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Garza is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Garza flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Smith anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Garza and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Smith slips an arm under Garza chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Smith has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Smith is squeezing on Garza like an anaconda would it's prey. Garza fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Taylor Smith!
