Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jaykke Wheaton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Nigel Swanson! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Swanson is looking to clinch but Wheaton is avoiding it.
Wheaton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Wheaton chips away with some ground and pound. Wheaton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Swanson swivels though and keeps the full guard. Wheaton looking to sit in guard and control but Swanson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Wheaton wants to sweep but no luck. Swanson trying to control but Wheaton is working from the bottom. Wheaton doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Wheaton keeping moving, preventing Swanson from controlling successfully. Swanson throws a big elbow that misses. Swanson stands up over Wheaton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Wheaton keeping moving, preventing Swanson from controlling successfully. Swanson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wheaton works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Swanson with a flurry of punches that miss. Wheaton is looking for a triangle here but Swanson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Swanson tries to score with some ground and pound. Wheaton controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Swanson looks up at the clock and then as Wheaton takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Swanson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Wheaton is not content to let Swanson control the position. Wheaton is looking to regain half guard here but Swanson keeps moving and retains side control. Swanson in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. You can see the frustration on Wheaton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Swanson advances to full mount. Swanson landing punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Swanson trying to control but Wheaton is having none of it. Swanson cracks Wheaton with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nigel Swanson! Nigel Swanson was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
