Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roy Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kieran Potts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Potts has chosen drowning pool the game as his entrance music. The key to victory for Roy Nelson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roy Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kieran Potts! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson with a poor takedown and Potts counters with a nice double leg into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Potts controlling the action here. Nelson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Nelson tries to get to full guard but Potts has control of the leg.
Kieran Potts has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Potts has managed to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Potts as Nelson tries to tie him up. Potts gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Potts is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Potts slips nicely into half guard. Potts looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Nelson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Nelson manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Nelson is working an open guard so Potts takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Potts changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nelson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Potts controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Potts tries to advance to mount but can't. Potts is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nelson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Potts decides to stand back up. Potts decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Nelson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Potts content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Potts stands up out of the half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Potts keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Potts shoots in and bounces Nelson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Potts sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nelson's guard. Potts works his foot free and advances to mount. Potts is trying to take his opponent's back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Potts cracks Nelson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Potts trying to control but Nelson is having none of it. Potts controlling the pace for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson is trying desperately to improve position. Potts raining down shots from the mount! A nice elbow there by Potts.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Potts goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Nelson turns into him and now he's in Potts's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Potts is on top in guard.
Potts stands up from guard. Let's bang! Potts darts in and clinches Nelson up against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Potts walks away with a smile on his face. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Nelson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Potts changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nelson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Nelson is trying to improve his position. Potts is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Potts scoring with punches from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kieran Potts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Potts misses with a left hand and Nelson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Potts won't be happy with that. Potts is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Potts is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Potts holds on to Nelson's head and controls the position momentarily. The strikes coming from Nelson are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Potts has one of Nelson's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage. Nelson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
That's one minute gone in the round. Potts tries to bench press Nelson off him but Nelson keeps the position. Potts is not content to let Nelson control the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Potts can do anything to dispel that myth. Nelson swings around for an armbar but Potts sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Nelson's guard. Potts passes easily into side control. Nice work. Nelson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Nelson seems a little lost for a moment, as Potts dominates the positioning.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Potts decides to stand back up. Potts steps back and let's Nelson get back to his feet. Nelson shoots in looking for a takedown. Potts tries to sprawl out of it but Nelson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Potts manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Potts clinches up against the cage. Potts has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Nelson regains guard immediately. Kieran Potts has got the better of the ground game so far. Nelson working for a triangle but Potts defends it easily.
Potts slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Potts stands up from guard. Let's bang! Potts has been the more effective fighter overall so far. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Potts drives through with a takedown into Nelson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Potts passes easily into side control. Nice work.
And that's the end of the fight! Kieran Potts comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Potts has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
