Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ray Mond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Silverman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ray Mond had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 136.3lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ray Mond! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fred Silverman! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silverman doesn't succeed with the takedown and Mond counters with a low kick, right behind Silverman 's knee. Silverman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mond to the mat! Mond manages to get full guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Mond pushes Silverman off and gets back to his feet.
Silverman throws a jab when Mond was well out of range. Mond connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Silverman fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Mond on the side of the head. A slapping leg kick lands for Mond.
A shot to the body from Mond misses and Silverman cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Silverman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mond on his heels. He'll look to pass Mond's guard now, I'm sure. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mond is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Mond wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silverman throwing strikes from guard but Mond blocks nicely. Mond wants to hit a switch here but Silverman passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mond there! Mond is wriggling around trying to escape.
Silverman misses with a head shot. Silverman wants to control the pace but Mond is squirming around nicely. Mond is trying desperately to improve position. Mond wants to hold on but Silverman pushes him away. Mond holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Silverman tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silverman landing shots from mount. Silverman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Silverman has hold of Mond's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mond manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Silverman looking to ground and pound but Mond is blocking nicely. Mond regains half guard. Mond is staying active underneath Silverman, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Silverman is trying for a kimura here. Mond looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Silverman wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fred Silverman! Fred Silverman got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
