Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ville Apila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nomor Gai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Apila comes to the cage accompanied by Distance ( OF OUR SKILLS). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Nomor Gai enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ville Apila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Nomor Gai!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gai scores with a nice right hand.
Apila bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Apila ducks under a wild hook from Gai.
Apila uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gai.
Gai bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Apila's head backwards.
Apila keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gai misses with a looping right.
Apila moves away from the strike by Gai.
Apila uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gai.
Apila looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gai is fending him off so far but Apila persists. Nope, Gai circles away and we're back to standing.
Gai thows a left - swing and a miss!
Gai throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nomor Gai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Apila on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Gai waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Apila.
Apila throws a series of punches but Gai moves out of range.
Apila uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gai.
Apila moves forwards but Gai connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Apila misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Apila tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gai swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Apila tries to clinch there but Gai circles away.
A left lands for Gai.
Apila on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Apila slips under a jab from Gai.
A swing and a miss from Gai.
Gai throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Apila shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gai is trying to defend but Apila finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gai trying to hold on to Apila's head to control him but Apila postures up.
Apila takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Gai regains full guard. Nicely done.

Gai looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Apila passes into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Apila trying to control the pace.
Gai trying to control but Apila postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gai is looking to improve his position.
Apila is looking to take a break and control but Gai is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Apila has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Apila trying to control but Gai is having none of it.

Apila is working for a guillotine from mount but Gai frees his head quite easily.

Apila swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gai is now in Apila's guard. A big mistake from Apila there, giving up the dominant position!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Apila is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gai is aware though and is defending well.
Gai is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nomor Gai dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Gai is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Apila.
Apila fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gai connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
A jab from Gai misses.
Gai loads up on a big right hand but Apila slips the punch.
Gai throws a lazy right hand but Apila sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Apila takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Gai misses with an uppercut.
Gai swings widly with a right hand
and Apila counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Gai might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Gai circles away from the clinch attempt.
A left lands for Apila.
Apila moves into range and connects with a jab.
Gai misses with a left hand
and Apila connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Apila drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gai gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Apila works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gai is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gai keeping moving, preventing Apila from controlling successfully.

Gai is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Apila defends well.

Gai is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Ville Apila overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Apila tries to score with some ground and pound. Gai controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ville Apila will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

enabling Apila to counter with a crisp jab.
Apila takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Apila uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gai.
Apila cracks Gai with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Nomor Gai seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Apila.

Apila ducks under a wild hook from Gai.
Gai thuds a left hand into Apila's body.
Apila fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gai avoids it really well and circles away.
Apila shoots in looking for a takedown but Gai manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Apila's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ville Apila. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Let's hope that Gai has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

You get the feeling that Apila really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Gai takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Gai looking to control but Apila is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Nomor Gai hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Gai throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Apila sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Apila swinging wildly here.
Gai misses with a left hand
and Apila makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Gai throws a hook to the side of Apila's head but Apila sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Apila lands a body shot.
A slow jab from Gai misses its intended target.
Gai scores with a hook to the body. Apila takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Gai throws out a loose jab but Apila uses good head movement to avoid it.
Gai looks to land a left hand but Apila moved out of range nicely.
Gai drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Apila tries to clinch up but Gai circles away and keeps his distance.

Apila shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gai but Gai pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Nomor Gai comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gai has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
