PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen In the Air Tonight as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Shaun Nelson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jon Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shaun Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nelson was well out of range. Poor timing from Jackson.
Nelson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Jackson lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Jackson throws a right hand that Nelson ducks under and follows up with a left that Nelson also avoids with ease.
Jackson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Nelson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Jackson.

Nelson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jackson is trying to defend but Nelson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Jackson is looking for a sweep. Nelson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jackson looks like he's trying to stand up.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nelson connects with a nice short shot to Jackson's temple.

Nelson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jackson wants to get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jackson looking for subs from the bottom but Nelson mounts him!

Nelson wants to finish this one by submission but Jackson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Nelson.

Jackson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Nelson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jackson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jackson shrugs it off.

Nelson looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Nelson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Jackson is trying to stand up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson landing strikes, looking to finish!

Nelson has hold of Jackson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jackson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Nelson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jackson is surviving well by controlling Nelson's body position as best he can.
Jackson squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nelson on the ground.
Nelson trying to control but Jackson is having none of it.
Jackson avoids a series of strikes thrown by Nelson.

Nelson lands a heavy elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jackson is squirming around, avoiding Nelson's attempts to control the action.

Nelson looking to secure an arm triangle but Jackson defends it well.
Nelson prevents Jackson from getting the reversal.
Jackson trying desperately to get to his feet.
Jackson can't escape the position.

Nelson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Jackson tries to hold on but Nelson postures up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Nelson looking for a guillotine from mount but Jackson is having none of it.
Jackson really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shaun Nelson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jackson misses with a series of wild punches.
Jackson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Nelson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jackson.
Jackson throws a nice outside leg kick.

Nelson rushes Jackson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jackson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Jackson working hard to break the clinch.

Nelson tightens his grip and picks Jackson up, before dumping him to the ground. Jackson manages to land in guard.
Jackson keeping moving, preventing Nelson from controlling successfully.
Nelson stands and throws Jackson's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Nelson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jackson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jackson wants to control but Nelson postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nelson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Nelson is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Jackson looks calm but he's in trouble here. Nelson gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Jackson is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Nelson lets go of the hold and Jackson can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Shaun Nelson!
Shaun Nelson seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
