Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mitchell Butler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Harry Canes!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butler is looking to land body kicks.
Butler swinging wilding here.

Butler closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Butler working away.
Canes tries to escape but Butler is in control.
Canes is looking to regain half guard here but Butler keeps moving and retains side control.

Butler decides to stand back up.
A combination from Butler does no damage.

Canes gets a clinch.

Butler breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Butler tries to keep at a distance but Canes has taken the fight into the clinch.
Canes looks gassed!
Butler wants a takedown but no success here.

Butler breaks the clinch.

Butler looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Canes!

Butler controlling from the full mount.
Canes tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Butler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Canes can't escape the position.
Butler avoids the attempt from Canes to control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Butler prevents Canes from getting the reversal.
Butler controlling from mount.
Canes tries to hold on but Butler postures up.
Butler controlling the pace for now.
Canes working to try and regain half guard.

Canes tries to hold on but Butler pushes him away.
Canes tries to reverse the position but Butler maintains control.
Canes wants to hold on but Butler pushes him away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Butler controlling from mount.
Canes gets back to half guard.
Canes is trying to stand up here but Butler is controlling him well.
Butler is taking a breather. Canes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Canes is trying to get back to full guard.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Butler.
A head kick from Canes lands but Butler takes it in his stride.
Canes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Butler.
Butler misses with a jab, cross combination.
Butler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Butler clinches but Canes breaks the clinch

and Canes counters with a takedown into side control.
Butler can't do much from the bottom here.
Canes in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Canes is looking to take a break and control but Butler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Butler gets back to half guard.

Canes prevents Butler from improving his position.
Canes wants to advance to full mount but Butler doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Butler wants to sweep here but Canes controlling him for the moment.
Butler can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Canes controls the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Butler keeping moving, preventing Canes from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Canes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Canes works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Butler is not content to let Canes control the position.
Canes prevents Butler from improving his position.
Canes tries to stand and escape but Butler is controlling the position.

Canes is tying to control. Butler wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Canes content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Butler controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

Canes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Butler is just riding it out for now. Canes eventually gives up the hold.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Canes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Canes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harry Canes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Butler is squirming around, avoiding Canes's attempts to control the action.
Canes throwing strikes but Butler recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Canes wants to take a breather but Butler is having none of it.

Butler kicks off Canes and gets to his feet.
Butler lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Butler doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Canes counters with an outside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Butler showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Canes.
Canes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Butler thuds a left hand into Canes's body.
Butler with a lazy takedown attempt

and Canes counters with a takedown into side control.
Butler regains half guard.
Canes wants to take a breather but Butler is having none of it.
Butler trying to control from the bottom.
Canes with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Canes stands up from half guard.
Butler moves in looking to clinch but Canes pushes him off.

Butler has Canes up against the cage in a clinch.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Butler blocks an elbow strike from Canes.
Butler stops a takedown attempt from Canes.
Butler prevents a takedown attempt there.

Butler is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Canes can't fight it off and eventually Butler manages to take the fight to the floor. Canes looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Canes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Canes wants to sweep here but Butler controlling him for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Butler throws a series of punches but Canes moves out of range.
Butler circles away from the clinch attempt.
Butler lands a head kick. Canes smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Mitchell Butler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Butler closes the distance and clinches.
Canes landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Canes jumps into guard, dragging Butler to the mat.
Canes looking to control.

Butler avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Butler stands up and waves to Canes to follow him.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mitchell Butler showed his dominance in that final round.
