Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucho Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Rodriguez there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Rodriguez throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Sanders's head.
Sanders looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rodriguez is fending him off so far but Sanders persists. Nope, Rodriguez circles away and we're back to standing.
Sanders swings for the body but Rodriguez moves out of range.
Sanders has a takedown stuffed.
Rodriguez fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sanders has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Sanders throws a leg kick
and Rodriguez counters with a leg kick.
Rodriguez takes a swing at Sanders's ribcage but misses.
Rodriguez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rodriguez scoring well with a low kick there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rodriguez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Sanders. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanders misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rodriguez throws a head kick but Sanders moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rodriguez throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

and Rodriguez counters with a slapping leg kick.

Sanders clinches up with Rodriguez and pushes him back against the cage.
Sanders is working for takedown but Rodriguez is calmly controlling the position for now.
Rodriguez goes for a takedown attempt but Sanders pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Sanders closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rodriguez wants to control but Sanders postures up.

Rodriguez reaches up around Sanders's neck trying to control. But Sanders takes advantage instantly and he's locked on an arm triangle! Big trouble for Rodriguez! Oh that looks nasty! A human being's head is not meant to turn that color! Rodriguez is out! He's gone limp! The ref steps in to break the fighters up and Sanders celebrates the victory with the fans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). James Sanders!
