Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Naoto Sugawara!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nobuhiro Nakamura!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nakamura staying out of range there.
Sugawara tries to close the distance and clinch but Nakamura swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sugawara throws the left hand but Nakamura avoids the punch easily.
Nakamura shoots in looking for a takedown but Sugawara manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nakamura's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sugawara defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nakamura.
Sugawara connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Nakamura momentarily.
Sugawara motions for Nakamura to come forward. Sugawara throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Sugawara scores with a hook.


It looks like Nobuhiro Nakamura has been cut.
Sugawara misses with a few strikes there.
Sugawara tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Nakamura is able to avoid easily.
Nakamura avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sugawara throws the left hand but Nakamura avoids the punch easily.
A slapping leg kick lands for Nakamura.
Sugawara scores with a leg kick.

Nakamura shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nakamura showed some decent athleticism there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nakamura looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Nakamura is working for a submission of some sort.
Sugawara is looking to escape.
Sugawara won't allow Nakamura to pass to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nakamura passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sugawara!
Nakamura throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

It looks like Naoto Sugawara has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nakamura throws a sloppy strike and Sugawara uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Sugawara has ended up in Nakamura's guard.
Nakamura wants to sweep here but Sugawara controlling him for the moment.
