The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGurty doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Silva counters with a stiff right hand.
Nicky McGurty seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGurty keeps the fight on the outside.
McGurty tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Silva manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McGurty is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Silva closes the distance and clinches up with McGurty, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes McGurty against the cage but McGurty circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

McGurty feints and then cracks Silva's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Silva down.

and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for McGurty!
Silva should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Silva has hold of McGurty's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and McGurty manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Silva takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
McGurty shoots in looking for a takedown. Silva tries to sprawl out of it but McGurty keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Silva manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Silva will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

McGurty dives in and grabs Silva's left leg, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes down on McGurty's head and hops out.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Silva takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Silva has eaten all the pies!

McGurty throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Silva turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Silva manages to end up in side control.
McGurty is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
