Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Travis Lirette (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Benson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lirette might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hear Me Now. James Benson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lirette was well out of range. Poor timing from Benson.
Travis Lirette seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Benson moves into the clinch.
Benson tightens his grip and picks Lirette up, before dumping him to the ground. Lirette manages to land in guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Lirette has his foot on Benson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Benson works his way back into a safe position though.
Benson passes Lirette's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Lirette is looking for a sweep. Benson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Benson moves nicely into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Benson is working Lirette over with some ground and pound from side control.
Benson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lirette keeps working.
Benson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Lirette some visible discomfort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lirette takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Benson tries to advance to mount but Lirette denies him.
Lirette tries to bench press Benson off him but Benson keeps the position.
Benson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lirette keeps working.
Lirette gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Lirette wants to improve his position but Benson is controlling well.

Benson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Benson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Benson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lirette does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Benson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Benson decides to stand up.
Lirette shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Benson as he jumps to the side.
Benson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lirette moves away.

Benson moves into range and clinches up with Lirette.
Benson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lirette is trying to keep an underhook but Benson manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Benson stands up and beckons Lirette to join him on the feet.
Benson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Benson is looking to take a break and control but Lirette is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Benson wants to pass to mount but Lirette is defending the position.

and Benson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Lirette is not content to let Benson control the position.
Benson tries to pass to full mount but Lirette defends it.

Benson is keen to just control but Lirette is a slippery customer.
Benson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lirette sees it coming and defends easily.
Benson drops an elbow to the side of Lirette's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Benson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Benson winds up and cracks Lirette with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Lirette is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Benson pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Benson dominated that round.
That's time! Lirette's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Lirette fails with the takedown
and Benson counters with a shoot takedown. Lirette fights it but they end up in guard.
Benson is in close to Lirette's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Lirette working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Benson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Benson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Benson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lirette escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Benson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Benson stands up from Lirette's guard - Benson perhaps looking for a knockout.
Benson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Benson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Lirette gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Benson to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Benson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lirette is proving hard to escape from.

Benson gets to his feet - Lirette follows without any prompting.
Lirette tries to score a power double leg takedown but Benson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lirette somewhat.
Lirette throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Benson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lirette to the mat! Lirette manages to get full guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Benson lands a nice short elbow.
Benson wants to pass to mount but Lirette is defending the position.
Benson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Benson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lirette is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Benson cracks Lirette with a big right hand but Lirette just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Benson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Benson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
